hallam
Jon Connington: "After the birth of Princess Rhaenys, her mother had been bedridden for half a year, and Prince Aegon’s birth had almost been the death of her. She would bear no more children, the maesters told Prince Rhaegar afterward." Just like in the Bible, many of GRRM's names are clues as to their narrative function. So Petyr 'Em' Baelish embellishes the truth. Tywin is 'I win' and so on. It struck me today that Jon Connington or 'Jon Con' might be both a literal 'Jon Con' and Jon 'Ret' Con, i.e Jon 'Retroactive Continuity'. In ASOIAF there are several references to Elia's poor health but JonCon is the only one who links it to childbirth. And note that nowhere in his statement does he say that the maester's prediction was correct. Jon Con's name seems to be a pretty strong hint that we are being misdirected here. And if we are being misdirected it is because what he implies but does not say isn't true and this is the key to Jon's identity.
Rippounet
Well, whenever we have a single source for an element, it's almost possible (and sometimes tempting) to consider whether it is genuine. But isn't it more simple to say the "Ret" or the "Con" refers to (f)Aegon?
