Opening credits

I would like to discuss about the opening credits with all of you.

I feel the opening credits are a bit long with almost a 2 minute length.

We have to note that the deleted scenes added to DVDs are less than 30 seconds. Some of them were very important to the plot like the Shae & Bronn deleted scene.

The opening credits were made by an emmy winning team. I am sure they can make a shorter version where they cycle names faster and provide precious screen time for important scenes.

What do you all have to say?

I don't have any problems with the length of the opening sequence. What I would like actually is a more accurate opening sequence, like I wanted to see Volantis on the map.

Furthermore am I the only one around here, who is bothered by the fact that when they show the Water Gardens on the map, they just simply write 'Dorne' under it? It's as if like when they show Winterfell, the Dreadfort, and Moat Cailin, every location would only have The North written next to it. Quite frustrating.

This. It's like the producers thought that remembering Sunspear is the capital of Dorne would be too hard. Plus, they love the way the actors and actresses say "Dorrrrne."

The credits are fine. They are good for book readers as we get to geek-out on the depiction of the various cities and for non-readers it helps to show the geography of the world the story is based in.

The Dorne thing really bugs the hell out of me though. Seriously guys, you named every other place correctly why just turn lazy this season? In my opinion it goes hand in hand with how they are trying to condense too much this season. Plotlines and characters and even locations are being condensed down to speed things up. It really feels like the show is starting a race to the finish line some of the time.

It's not exactly lazy to put in Dorne instead of Water Gardens/Sunspear as they'd all take around the same amount of processing and time, I think.

Game of Thrones has the best opening of any show, and many many other people agree. It's elegant, the song is amazing, a visual feast and despite having many locations, it still feels fast paced to me.

Don't have any problem with them really. Anyone who watches the show with me doesn't mind sitting through them. The theme song to me has still not gotten old, which says a lot about Ramin Djawadi's composing. As cassius said, it is the best show intro of all time TBH.

Funny, I read somewhere that there's a thread back then where book readers say Djawadi will butcher the theme and soundtrack of GoT. I wonder where all those people are now?

I tend to overlook the map as I'm focused on reading which actors are slated for that episode. I find it odd how they decide which actors get single billing and which ones get grouped in pairs of 2 or 3. Sansa and Arya always get lumped together with other people and Stannis, Davos and Melissandre always get their own. It has to be based on the actors reputation. As people who are probably bigger roles like Samwell and Brienne tend to get lumped with others and Littlefinger has his own.

Yikes

Never knew anyone would complain about the best show intro of all time

I did NOT say the opening credits or the music was bad.

1.I said it was too long

2. Deleted scenes which were very important had to be cut because GoT ran too long

That combined with a minute long recap wastes too much time.

They only refered to Sunspear a couple of times in S.4 whereas Dorne was refered to every second line in Kings Landing. Its all about keeping it straight forward.

Its cool how in S.1 Kit Harrington was at the end of the credits line but now he is one of the first names to come up.

The only thing that buggs me on the intro is that they don't update frequently enough. It's a bit better this season, but God they were lazy is season four IIRC. The visuals are great and they are a great help for Unsullied viewers, thus they should always be up to date (with the exception of possible spoilers).

I don't think it's too long. If anything it's too short for all the locations now included. I miss the earlier seasons when the sequence could linger a bit longer over each location. Now it's like zooming through the whole world.

The recap wastes the most time. There was never a need for it before. Why now?

I dont think the titles are to blame for deleted scenes. Deleted scenes are usually cut because the filmmakers feel they either dont flow well or are redundant.

Regarding the opening, my only complain is that it says Dorne instead of Sunspear/Water Gardens and that the Eyrie didnt make an appearance in S4 but other than that, it's fun to watch, the theme song is still catchy as hell and the visuals are stunning.

At the risk of someone accusing me of being a show apologist (which I'm not) I will say it isn't laziness. There actually was a whole bunch of articles just last week about the credits and one thing I learned is that they are very costly and time-consuming. Personally, I'm ok with cutting Volantis if that means the money is better spent elsewhere - of course, that last part is arguable since they have absolutely failed on the direwolves (though the dragons have been incredible).
