One particular thing I didn't like about this episode was how Tyrion convinced the slave masters to buy him. In the books he has quite a bit of worth as a curiosity in a grotesquery, or as a fool and Tyrion uses his wit and charm to big himself up and then convinces them to buy Jorah as well by spinning the tale of their double act. It was a good display of Tyrion's people skills. Here Tyrion beats up a slaver and apparently that makes him worth buying for the fighting pits - only he's not actually used in the pits at all.

I didnot like the offer of burning Shireen in return of, well, nothing.

That was extremely vague and it certainly will not be the end of Stannis' efforts.

I've been discussing it elsewhere. but I think Shireen is doomed. The Show is making it very plain that by enlisting Melisandre, Stannis has made a deal with the devil.

Even the soundtrack is bad this season. The Faith theme that played as Cersei was locked in her cell sounded like it came out of the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

It was to REALLY hammer home that religion = bad. In case he hadn't realized with that 5x04 Faith Militant scene.

Well, the pretenses as to why Tyrion was brought to Meereen are incredibly flimsy - last week he escaped his throat getting cut for no sound reason ("Cock merchant"), this week he joins the fighting pit crew even though he is clearly no fighter. He joins Dany solely by the power of Plotward zo Forward, the Meereenese god of rushed story development.

Concerning King's Landing, it seems like D&D have read half of AFFC - hence they got the high sparrow character quite right, but goofed big time with the Faith Militant. Sparrow wants to be a people's leader to oppose the nobles, but the first thing his movement does is smash places, beat up and arrest people because they are deemed immoral. How on earth is he supposed to be the commoners' leader if the first (and so far only thing) he did was pissing off commoners? Or should we see him as that because he washed things twice so far?

I totally agree with you. It also displays that Jorah is respecting Tyrion more and more. There is not much of that in the show. Tyrion beating up a kid, It is not something Tyrion would do and I cant understand why the writers would put in this scene.

LOL! It really did.

I did like Cersei's last scene with the HS though, Jonathan Pryce is such a great actor, and Lena was excellent too.

Mel at least could have promised a dragon or a magic sword or something proportional to the sacrifice. She promises victory but the victory is extremely distant even if Stannis burns Shireen right now.

Excuse you, the Hunchback of Notre Dame had a great soundtrack.

LOL, I'm not disagreeing with that. :P I love that movie. But the soundtrack in GoT is just too heavy-handed.

Yeah his acting is really saving his scenes. Lena was good too, but I think that's because his performance made her up her game. (I like her and think she's a great actress, but for me she's been delivering the same performance on and off since season 3.)

I really like Dany's soundtrack this season, tbh.

I always like Dany's soundtrack (I think Ramin Djawadi has said he enjoys composing for her the most). But I mean generally the soundtrack has been really over-used and particularly hamfisted this season. It hasn't really been subtle since season 1, but this season is especially bad.

And the Faith theme is just so out of place. The Red God theme is also overly sinister and on-the-nose, but at least it doesn't feel like a direct comparison to a real-world religion.

This is an actual book snob nitpick, but I wish they hadn't included the myth of Jorah killing Khal Drogo... It's kind of a huge deal in the books that Dany killed her husband and everyone knows about it

Not to forget that Drogo died undefeated ...like dany says how many men can boast something like that
