What's Happening With Gendry?

Gendry has one of the strongest claims to the throne regardless of being a bastard. In terms of who has the strongest claim it's either between he or Stannis, but we haven't seen Gendry in just about two seasons. What gives? Is it possible that he's been cut? I just don't understand how someone with such potential to play an important role could just be left off screen for such an extended period of time.

Gendry has no claim in the Iron Throne let alone one of the strongest claims.

I expect to see him in S6 again or maybe if a certain user (Patchface) can be believed he will appear this season.

He may not have an "official" claim, but that doesn't mean people wouldn't try to crown him in the event of Stannis and Shireen's deaths. And there's historical precedent for that:

Trystane Truefyre and Gaemon Palehair

, both bastards (and fake bastards at that, at least Gendry is the real deal and people remark how he looks like Renly and young Robert)

These are very rare examples from ASOS history, both short term, both heppening in the midst of confusion and war, both based on real historic characters... in the real history there were zillions of royal bastards who were never even considered as hairs to the throne.

If Stannis controlled half the realm and he and Shireen suddenly die in the midst of the war, then yes, his supporters could have potentially dug up Gendry but at this point power base of Stannis is pretty week, for many Lords even Stannis is a liability, if he loses/dies they would probably try to make ammends to the current holders of the Iron Throne or ally with those who have strong army to oppose Lanisters.

Gendry's claim is extremely week and could work only if:

A) He were legitimized/recognised by his father during his lifetime (ala Edric Storm)- (even in this case people would contest his claim) - but Gendry was never legitimised, even his existance is hardly known to anybody.

B) He was backed by some powerfull player - why would anyone back Gendry as this point when you have Tommen/Myrcella (both seen legit by their supporters), Stannis/Shereen (Backed by those pro-baratheon forces who are against Lannisters), not to mention northern/ironborn/dornish separatists and Targaryen loyalists... - In this situation who would care about yet another bastard son of Robert?

At this point, the only chance for Gendry to join the Game of Thrones is if someone like Varys/LF or say Tyrells decide to use him for their own benefit. Varys adn LF have their own plans at this point, so I would say Tyrells are the only option (if they urgently need Tommen raplacement) and even this sounds really far fetched...

This assumes that Gendry would even be a willing pawn in any plot to the throne. I don't think he'd be interested even if he knew.

He is drinking and whoring his way into an early grave just like paps.

Are you serious? No. He may look like Robert, but the entire point of his character is that he's nothing like him.

I think Varys may have Gendry and will use him in his Dany plot. So that Dany will have a Baratheon at her side and maybe gain support from Barathon bannermen.

I hope the show doesn't make Gendry into (f)Aegon. Or match him with Dany.

Dany would be more likely to roast him than to let him anywhere near her side, BTW.

Yes, Liz Stark. It is called sarcasm. You might try it. I have read the books. Many times in fact. I am surprised your favorite character is not Brienne with imagination of that magnitude. You also seem kind of hell bent on proving your superior knowledge of the story line and pushing your point of view on people instead of like just enjoying a good story.....just saying.

I have some idea where the Gendry could show up next season.

He rowed to the nearest shore and then he headed for the Wall. He took the black and became a blacksmith at the Shadow tower.

Now, that Stannis is probably dead, Melisandre could again see Gendry in flames and name him Gendry Baratheon, a new lord of the Storm's End.
