'Broad Strokes'

How do people feel about the HBO show's progression away from the books? Do you think the 'broad strokes' which we've seen in the show will unfold, albeit more detailed, in the novels?

I understand that a few things which have occurred are simply accelerated arcs, i.e. Tyrion/Daenerys.

But what about Barristan, Jaqen, Sansa/Ramsay, Night's King, etc.?

Sansa Ramsay is interesting, and probably points that Sansa will remain in the Northern part of Westeros in the books. I had the thought that perhaps Sansa and Theon would marry in the future, revamping the true heirs to their seats, and giving some peace the the North. Also since Reek has no schlong Ramsay provided spermage. In reality, I still hate her and want her dead.

I think Jaqen really more so represents The Many Face God in the series. It is a religion that is loosely defined, and as we know those who only watch TV would probably prefer the cast wear nametags

Barristan gon die

I much prefer the novels for the detail, backstory, etc., but the casting has been pretty excellent and the performances have been great by most characters.

That said, I don't know why, but I have this vision in my head of Ricky Gervais playing Marwin. It makes literally no sense, but his face shows up every time I try to picture that character. If they make that (hilariously bad) casting decision, I might just have to switch sides.

There's no telling. I prefer not to over-think it. Que sera sera.

Pretty much my feeling too. I prefer not to even try to divinate what the books are going to be like from that show. (Becomes a lot easier once you stop watching it!)

The fact that Bran's story has been shelved for a season seems as though the showrunners are reluctant to touch on 'the really juicy stuff'.

Bearing that in mind, I guess you could infer that these other developments are just a roundabout way of winding things down easily and won't necessarily unfold in the same manner in the books.

I dunno. I'm not sure if I want to watch to the end of this season after the potentially huge spoilers of Night's King last season and Jaqen this season. Seems like they're preemptively retconning theories which are years old, if that makes any sense.

:worried:
