What happened to the Dragon's eggs from Summerhall?

I find it hard to believe that any amount of wildfire would be sufficient to destroy seven dragon eggs. When Dany put hers into a raging inferno, they actually hatched, not burned. So here is my crazy theory as to where those eggs went. I think that after Summerhall, the Targaryens probably decided to put the eggs away, I mean look at the devastation they caused. The temptation to hatch them drove Aegon V literally insane and killed a bunch of people including Ser Duncan and the king and nearly Rhaella and Rhaegar as well. However, after the Defiance at Duskendale, Aerys got really paranoid. It got to the point that he didn't trust the Dornish or his own heir because he thought that they were plotting to kill him. With Rhaegar spouting prophecies about the three heads of the dragon, it's not insane to think Aerys might have gotten worried that Dragonstone might be the next Summerhall. So he had to hide the eggs. But where? Not Dragonstone obviously, Rhaegar lived there. (That explains why no eggs were found there later by the Baratheons or the Tyrells.) As far as I've gathered, the single person in the world that Aerys trusted was his cousin Steffon. (Remember Rhaelle Targaryen, Steffon's mother, was Aerys' aunt.) So maybe Aerys decided that he would send the eggs to Storm's End, arguably the strongest castle in the realm, and tell no one except Steffon himself. Well Steffon died before telling anyone, and for that matter so did Aerys. Wait, so who else could know? Aerys did have a bunch of Hands, and its unlikely that anyone would serve in that position if Aerys didn't think them trustworthy. As it happens, the only one of Aerys' former Hands still alive is Jon Connington, who chose to begin the invasion of Westeros in the Stormlands and was last seen heading towards Storm's End. Might we see young Aegon (or fAegon) hatch a dragon? Let me know what you think.

Well done to play the known paranoia of Aerys, and combine it with another off-screen character we know he trusted, but who died unexpectedly.

If they were there, and JonCon knew of them, it would be majorly significant, since the second they found out Dany hatched eggs they must have realized that it was at least possible. But we still dont really know what it was that actually hatched the eggs - was it Dany herself? Was it black/blood magic? Was it Drogo's death? Was it the sacrifice of an unborn child? Was it the red comet? My guess is the dragons were responding to Dany as they traveled, as they started to warm up, and they were finally released when Dany needed them the most.

Its doubtful that Aegon would be able to just hatch eggs, unless he was meant to.

Wouldn't it make sense for them to be in Kings Landing? We know Aerys was planning to burn the city should he be betrayed. That amounts to a gigantic sacrifice to me. Everyone knows fire and sacrifice are required to hatch dragon eggs.

Maybe but my point was that he probably took the eggs away from kings landing because he thought the dornish would steal them or something. Anyways, Aerys probably didn't know about what was required to hatch dragon eggs. Even if he did, I doubt he would bother to hatch them if he wouldn't live to see it.

GRRM has stated that what happened with Dany/eggs was a one time thing. It isn't happening again.

Wasn't one of the eggs tossed into the sea?

Euron Greyjoy claims to have thrown an egg into the sea in one of his "fouler moods".. It is speculated that he used it as payment to a Faceless Man to kill his brother (who drowned after falling into the sea).

Actually, interestingly enough, according to The World of Ice and Fire, Aerys II had dragon eggs at one point and tried to hatch them. I wonder where those went. It seems to me that they are not as hard to come by as some people think, they are just hard to hatch.

Well the "Targaryens'" dragons left lots of eggs that focilized. If Aerys caught "Dragon sickness" and tried to get his own dragons through "wildfire" I don't see why he would be paranoid of dragon eggs. The most simple explanation : there was a catastrophy at summerhall, dragon eggs cost a fortune : it wouldn't shock me that they were found by some pillagers, who could have kept them or sold them.

For me the main question is what happened for Dragon eggs to stop hatching?

Until Dance with Dragons their hatching was regular and expected  - you put an egg into cradle of infant Targ - the egg hatches. It was more of unwelcome surprise and considered to be a bad omen if an egg didn't hatch

And then something happened during DwD, either Maesters did something to eggs but how could anyone loose a knowledge of how to hatch a dragon? Even if it was a secret, you would assume that Viserys would let ALL his children know and his brother Daemon would know too, and that none of them bothered to let any of their children know?

And as of DwD, hatching a dragon didn't include killing someone - there were wild dragons on Dragonstone too!
