Was Aegon cut because of Jon Connington?

This is a little silly, but the tv show renamed Asha Greyjoy into Yara Greyjoy do she won't be confused with thr wildling girl Osha only to forget about both.

So, was the Aegon plotline cut because of Jon Connington, because there is already a character named Jon and another character who is gay?

Doubt it would be for the reason you say. Hard to theorize over it without the spoiler warning.

For this season, I'd say that it is mostly due to plate being too full. Tyrion seems to fly to Meereen so no long journy set up.

if he never arrives it might have something to do with what Quaithe says to Dany in the book about not trusting all those that will arrive including a Mummer's Dragon.

The book wants us to count down the possible canidates for the three heads of the dragon, whereas the showrunners don't seem to want to commit extra screen time to arrive there. Some say e absense of Aegon spoils the book in this regard

I still think Aegon will appear in the show, likely next season. Whether he's Aegon or Faegon is irrelevant, he's going to have an important role in Winds of Winter.

Maybe they'll combine him with another character (Trystane, perhaps?), but I doubt he'll be cut completely.

If they were concerned about name confusions they could have just renamed Jon Connington, so I doubt that's it. Realistically the Griffs were cut because that plot line would make no sense without the proper backstory, and the show has only had so much time to work with. While I abuse them a lot for changes they make, I think this was likely a smart move.

I swear, If I hear one more person toss out the excuse that D&D didn't have enough time for the show to carry a story-line from the books after they included numerous story-lines that weren't in the books. Seriously.

To play devil's advocate, a storyline that requires an understanding of backstory (like Aegon) requires more time and viewer concentrion than a sub-plot about a prostitue who happens to be near major power players (Ros). I'm not saying you're entirely wrong, but it's not a 1-to-1 comparison.

A few scenes of historical exposition and we are well on our way.

Why do people consider Connington gay? Is there a thread on it or something...?

GRRM confirmed it

As to the OP, I don't think so. They could've renamed him Yohn Connington or something.

I think that's a valid reason, but in my opinion what makes Aegon and Crew hard to adapt is that they show up out of the blue too late in the game with no build-up or preamble whatsoever. The right way to go, IMO, would've been to introduce them sooner in some capacity. Even an early cameo would've sufficed.

If young griff is another quentyn, though, then there is no reason to introduce him at all, is there? Introducing Griff you have to have Connington and then numerous scenes of him with somebody else, somewhere, even if they cut battles and so forth...it's a complicated back story as it is, and then if you introduce him and he goes nowhere that's another new, main character that comes to nothing....

So, I'm inclined to think not having may have been the right call.

Which? It's pretty easy to say that they could have easily included it. Aegon takes up quite a bit of time. If he's actually important to the story he'll take up even more time.

So, let's get some details here. How many scenes could they have done Aegon in? How long? Which other scenes should they have cut? How would they have accomplished what those scenes did without them? How many new actors would they have to hire? You need at least Jon Con, probably a couple more of that band. You need to give Aegon an army at some point, obviously, which would be expensive to show. And film them somewhere new, because putting an army in an already filmed location would necessarily change whatever storyline was being told there. Can you back up your claim or not?

I will never actually understand this decision. Asha became Yara but how come Bran and Bronn were kept the same?

I sincerely hope that's not the reason why they cut the Aegon plotline.

Maybe I have too much faith in him, but I don't think GRRM would pull yet another Quentyn (especially considering how he's basically hated by half the fandom). I mean, it'd seriously be a supremely shit twist

What else could he be for? There's no way he's sitting the throne at the end, as the lost prince returning to right the monarchy is way too cliche for this story. He's going to die, and probably in a way that makes his entire quest seem vain in the attempt. So basically Quentyn reborn, though that does make me wonder if they'll try and combine them in season 6.
