BearFrog
Be warned: This topic may get a little ridiculous, but it's all in good fun So, I often think to myself how easily the conflicts in many tv shows, books and movies would be solved if Goku from Dragonball Z simply showed up in that universe, and, because he's so much more powerful than anyone else and can't reasonably be killed by most people in most universes, his strong sense of justice would eventually lead to him defeating said villains and bringing peace to the world. But, given the complexitiy of A Song of Ice and Fire (mostly with the politics), Goku with his naive nature would not do a good job of establishing any kind of lasting peace, because he's a fighter and is really only intelligent on the battlefield and not a good ruler overall. So, it got me to thinking, if you could bring in one character from another fictional universe into the universe of A Song of Fire and Ice, to make the biggest impact on the world and shift the plot in the biggest way, who would you bring in, and what kind of impact would they have? After some thought about how Goku wouldn't be a good bet, I thought about bringing in Kami from DBZ. For those who don't know, Kami is a powerful fighter and "Guardian of the Earth", watching over mankind throughout the series and creator of the Dragon Balls, which are magical orbs that can grant the user a single wish upon collecting all seven (scattered across the globe). Kami is strong, but he is weak enough to be killed by an army if ambushed, and if the dragon balls were in the ASOIAF universe it would add another conflict to the already complex plot, because Stannis and everybody else would focus on collecting them as a means of power, and Arya would probably collect them because of their ability to bring people back from the dead. However, Kami would probably end up being killed, and if he dies the dragon balls die, so there's not much point in brining him in. If I were to bring in one character who would bring in an earth-shattering difference to that world, it would be Goku's son, Gohan, shortly after his battle with the demon Majin Buu. Superman has a strong sense of justice and is strong enough to bring a lot of good into the world, but he has very poor political skills and isn't very intelligent when it comes to state affairs. Gohan, however, as a child had lots of experience with negotations involving peaceful terms with small villages under seige and as a young adult was on his way to becoming one of the world's most established scholars, so his intelligence level in terms of understanding of political structures are second only to Tyrion and Tywin. But, Gohan is also insanely powerful, strong enough to fight armies of robots way stronger than humans with just his bare fists and strong enough where swords and the like won't harm him. He has the strength to destroy a planet with a simple laser blast, so you can bet he could wipe out an army with a blast of energy. His presence in the universe would completely shift the power structure. He's power enough to fight the army of Others on his own, and powerful enough to defeat a dragon, but he's also smart enough to know who to surround himself. His biggest weakness would be his honor and kindness. The most likely cause of death for Gohan would have to be poisoning, as he is still vulnerable to that, so the likelihood of betrayel in that respect would be high. but not before truly shifting the game in that universe. At this point in the show, if he were to suddenly appear, he would travel to Mereen to meet Dany (who he would consider the true queen), and upon learning that she had gone missing, would go on a mission to rescue her. After succeeding in rescuing her, Gohan, Dany and the dragons would be ready to invade Westeros, and they would succeed in taking the Iron Throne. With the dragons, her armies and Gohan by her side, there is nobody to question her power, but with advisors like Tyrion, she is actually able to rule justly. The Others, when they do appear, are easily handled by Gohan, whose experience fighting aliens, robots and demons comes in handy, because he is smart enough to figure out how to defeat them without being weak enough to die in the process. So, that's my pick for the one ficitional character I'd bring in to ASOIF universe from another universe. Kinda a weird topic, but I think it will be fun reading the responses. Jak Scaletongue
So, it got me to thinking, if you could bring in one character from another fictional universe into the universe of A Song of Fire and Ice, to make the biggest impact on the world and shift the plot in the biggest way, who would you bring in, and what kind of impact would they have? Not that she would in any way be beneficial to the settings of ASOIAF, I would love for Dany to meet Iskierka from the Temeraire series. She's a fire-breathing Turkish dragon - and a god-awful handful! The Temeraire dragons can talk, and Iskierka (in my head) almost seems like a female talking version of Drogon sometimes (although, with the talking, I do understand Iskierka's thought processes a bit more...). She'd give Dany plenty of advice - not necessarily good advice, but I feel that Iskierka would be a firm believer in "Fire and Blood (and Prizes)." Can you imagine if Dany was actually getting her advice directly from a bloodthirsty, uncontrollable, persuasive, fire-breathing dragon? Actual, real, verbal advice - not the rough encouragement she gets from Drogon, but actual, honest to god (bad) advice! We'd get "Fire and Blood," that I promise! TheDrunkenDornishman
I'm torn between Rand al'Thor (Wheel of Time) and Richard Rahl (Sword of Truth). Both would monumentally screwup the game of thrones for everyone :p
kimim
Inquisitor Glokta from the First Law trilogy by Abercrombie wouldn't have saved the world, but would have saved Tyrion's pov in Dance.
eva-e
Havelock Vetinari from Terry Pratchett's discworld. Someone who can play the guilds of Ankh-Morpork against each other to keep that city running could also play the factions of the GoT against each other to come out on top. And I really think Westeros would be better prepared for the Other invasion that way - specifically because we don't really know how he does it. plectrum
Kvothe would be a cool guy to bring in (Kingkiller Chronicles). Maybe He-Man. He could get a quick cameo before freezing to death since all he ever wore was a banana hammock and a shoulder harness.

ETA - I do have something to add - I'd really like to see a "Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That: Dragons Edition! Maybe Thing One and Thing Two would finally feed that slave driver to the dragon!
