Nights Kings Queen
I'm sure there will be a thousand threads about the pronunciation of characters names, but I thought I'd make the one thousand and one thread about it.So if anyone can tell me, I was wondering how to pronounce Tyrell, Aegon and Myrcella (is it just Marcella?).And Petyr. Is it Peter or Pee-Tie-R?
James of the Blackwater
well GRRM said it's however you want to pronounce it but I will tell you how I personally do Tyrell = Tie-Rell Aegon = ay-gone Myrcella - Mur-Cell-Ah Petyr - like the name Peter

TheLightning Lord
in my view AreYa and Eggon sound horrible. Damp hair was one that threw me on my first read through
Orphalesion
Personally I prefer:Tyrell: Tirrel, to rhyme with squirrel. It reminds me of that line in the poem the "Lady of Shalott" Tirra Lirra by the river/Sand Sir Lancelot. Probably due to the Tyrells' association with chivalry and beauty. Aegon: My first instinct when seeing the word would be "Eye-gon" same with "Die-neris" due to Ae always being pronounced like "eye" in Tolkien's writings. Myrcella= Marcella Petyr= Peter Of course the show ruined the first two pronunciations for me.
RedShirt47
I prefer:Tyr-EllAeg-OnMir-Cell-AhPeter But even GRRM uses Ae-Gon sometimes in the commentaries so I guess you takes your pick...
Criston of House Shapper
Roy Dotrice likes to say Pee-Tire and Bry-Eene I think GRRM commented on the listening books that they had asked him how to pronounce the difficult names, but then got all the other ones wrong. Ptire and Bryeeene were probably the latter.

Balerion the kitten
What about Taena from Myrae, is usually pronounced as ay. An example of a name like this in ASOIAF is Shae, which is pronounced Shay.So it would be said like Tay-na.
