Which King would you fight for?

Well they all kind of suck in their own way. Meh. Since I'm an unaffiliated knight with no lands or allegiance... this rules out Robb Stark and Balon Greyjoy given they don't worship the Seven and knights do pretty much. The separatist movements were doomed anyways.

As much of a jerk as he is, I'd have to pick Joffrey. He's on the throne, he's the rightful king so far as everyone knows(or cares) and he's the one who can reward me the most.

Renly seems like a good choice. His army traveled in comfort and seemed to have a whole lot of fun. And after a few months, without a single battle, he got himself magically killed, and everyone got to decide whether to switch sides or go home. Sounds like a pretty good war to me.

Even if you knew of the incest rumors? Wouldn't you then fight for the rightful heir, Stannis?

That's what I considered, too. I would fight for Joff only because he has more power and is in a better position than Stannis.

Who started those rumors? Oh yeah the guy who stands to benefit from them. I'd be looking at things in world, not with an all knowing perspective.

None.

1. Robb is the course of much of death and destruction in a foolish rebellion.

2.Joffrey is a Mad King in the making.

3. Renly is, to me, the most attractive king, but they lost pretty quickly. Plus, again, cause of much death and destruction in a unjust rebellion.

4.Stannis is a fanatic (or at least allows a fanatic in his court) who burns people alive for praying to the wrong gods.

5. Balon....really? Iron Islanders? Ewwwww

Anyway, I don't fight. War is the ugliest thing there is in the universe and those pointy swords hurt.

I'd rather be a minstrel and play songs for Lady Olenna in High Garden.

For me? Renly is the only real option.

  • Incest aside, fighting for Joff/Tommen holds no appeal. They are fighting literally everyone else and the North and RL are gonna join up with the Vale. Then you have KL starving since Mace closed the Rose Road to them.
  • Stannis has a large navy, a small army, and little to no popular appeal
  • Robb is fighting for Ned and then breaks off into a kingdom he can't possibly hold (RL) and the Vale hasn't joined their strength to him yet
  • Balon .... nope.

Robb if I was a northman (or from the riverlands), Renly if I was a southron.

Balon, Joff & Tommen thanks but no thanks.

Stannis...well, I have some issues with someone burning people or art to please some deity (not to mention the shadowbaby thing).

In world? I'd definitely pick Renly. After all, bar some magical disaster how could he lose? Plus, if some magical assassination did happen (crazy, I know) I'd then still get to pick one of the remaining kings in the confusion. I'd probably pick Stannis, because what would the chances be that I'd pick the side with the biggest army and still lose both times? Pretty low I'd imagine.

That's exactly why you fight for Renly. Because you don't have to fight. You spend a few months marching comfort and participating in tournaments and having fun, until Renly gets shadowsassinated. That's no fault of yours. Alas, the beloved True King has been struck down by vile magic, and the glorious battles you would have fought in are never to be. Let the other men betray Renly's honor by fighting for Stannis or Joffrey, but you could never do that to him. It's sad that the only honorable course of action is to stay home telling stories to the young women about the great reign that should have been and the glories that should have been won, but what can you do?

Good point....Renly has my banner. And after his death I will just be too traumatized to fight for anybody else I'll just have to retire to my castle with my lute, because it would simply not feel right to betray my oath to Renly. The Summer King also sounds incredibly romantic I can write ballads about him and his Rose of Highgarden, while sitting in the Autumn sun eating fruit and drinking Dornish Wine. Darn Shadow Assassin... :cool4:
