Otherkin?

Recommended Posts

I found an interesting article about a certain group of people:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otherkin

They are called Otherkin, people who, while born into a human body, identify themselves as a non-human species, such as a platypus, a lion, a dragon or an elf.

Has anyone met any Otherkin, or had any experience with them? If so, do you think they are treated well and with acceptance by society?

I have met an Otherkin, and frankly, it didn't go well. Argued about absolutely everything.

I feel they are the product of a society (or at least, a sphere of it) that overvalues individuality and exceptionalism, where to be someone, you must be different from your neighbour, it's something that seriously irks me. Controversial opinion incoming, but I feel it's a bit the same way with any genders outside of the two standard ones, genderqueers, and agenders. I hate the term, as it's often used to demean people who don't deserve it, but otherkin are definitively what I'd see as "snowflakes".

They are accorded about as much respect from society as homeopaths and crystal healers are, that is to say very little.

Furries have it way worse than they do, but then again, they also are more visible and have been there for considerably longer.
