So he was willing to leave LA over Chris Paul hurting his feelings but now might go back because the Clippers are showing him some love? How flaky is this dude?

He probably had a little time to think about leaving 28 million dollars on the table over some hurt feelings. On top of that, I suppose the Clips probably sweetened the deal even further once they found out he hadn't signed yet.

If this happens, I wonder if it will deter NBA teams from doing too much negotiating with players before they are actually allowed to sign players (which this year I believe is July 9). Its not great to base your entire offseason strategy around completely informal talks and agreements.

I went to the ProbasketballTalk website this morning and the first headline there was "Clippers players confident that DeAndre Jordan will return to LA". I'm thinking f*cking Chrome is showing me a cached page from a couple of weeks back. So I hit reload and apparently it's a current story. Has there ever been a high profile reversal like this in the NBA?

Hedo Turkoglu did something similar in 2009.

I don't see why players wouldn't pull this sort of thing more often, especially under the rules as they presently stand. If the team that presently has you under contract could concievably pay you more, why not turn up the heat on them? I suppose it could hurt your reputation longterm, but if you are a hot commodity it might be worth the risk.

Seems like a done deal, Jordan stating with the Clippers

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/08/report-deandre-jordan-tells-clippers-he-will-re-sign-with-them-but-they-arent-leaving-until-he-does/

Jordan told then he would re-sign with the Clippers, going back on his verbal agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports. Dallas owner Mark Cuban wants to meet with Jordan, Jordan’s agent Dan Fegan would like to get in the door, and none of it is happening. Jordan isn’t even taking phone calls from Cuban or Chandler Parsons.

Mark Cuban doesn't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. He doesn't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.

It's such a bizarre saga. Clippers players have showed up on Jordan's house and put chairs in front of the door to keep Chandler Parsons and Mark Cuban out. DeAndre Jordan isn't taking calls.

And holy crap DeAndre Jordan is a child. We all change our minds time to time but between picking a team because Chris Paul was mean to him and then ghosting the team who welcomed him when he had a change of heart, I mean are these the actions of a professional about to get paid $80m minimum? Just be a man and explain it to the Mavericks. They won't be pleased but at least you'll have done your part as a man.

Anyway, for my money, I'd rather DJ go back to the Clippers. If he does there are 4 superteams in the West: Warriors, Spurs, Clippers and Thunder with the Rockets looming. There's no longer 7 50 win teams in the West. There's those 5. And almost certainly an awesome semifinals in the West.

Supposedly someone tweeted something like "You know who is going to handle this like an adult? Mark Cuban." Heh.

Hahaha

D got a great roll at the start of the game on agility but not so much on constitution. Dungeon masters covet him anyway.

I had the same thing, I thought I was seeing an unrefreshed page.

What an unbelievable story line this is. Personally this moves really pleases me, as I explained in the previous thread, I just don't see why the Mavs would be that appealing to him, surrounded by Dirk and league average starters. Yes he'd be the no.1 man, yes he would do more on offense, but they would still be fighting for a fringe playoff spot on a team that would probably still be worse than the Clippers (without Jordan) next season. And it's questionable whether a man of such excellent but very limited offensive abilities could ever be the focal point of any NBA team's offense.

So this puts the Clippers right back in contention. Crawford will be staying, and they have basically swapped Hawes and Barnes for Lance Stephenson and Paul Pierce, a definite upgrade. Plus the mental boost that team is going to get from this massive free agency victory.

As for Dallas, they might as well tank now.

I wonder if Dallas will get any draft pick compensation for all this. I doubt it, since I don't think the Clippers broke any rules, like tampering; its only convention that teams don't talk to players that have verbal commitments to other teams. But Dallas really got screwed here, and in a worse way than a team that gets screwed because they waited too long for an uncommitted player to make up their mind. In that second case, the team is making choice to pursue the risk; here, Dallas had no idea there was a risk. They had a verbal commitment and pursued the rest of their offseason activities under that assumption.
