Your top 5 songs/theme songs from GoT

Recommended Posts

Let's be frank, I love the books more than I love the show, however there is one thing that the show does that the book cannot, and that is it has the beautiful score written by Ramin Djawadi, which is in my opinion is the single greatest score ever for a television show.

So let's do a top 5 songs from GoT...I'm sticking with theme songs to certain characters for the most part but if you want to go with general songs that's fine

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3cDLnkYs30- Warrior of Light - Theme to Stannis Baratheon

This song is just so cool, I think it really captures of Stannis, one of my favorite characters, it just had an aura of badassery surrounding it...my knees were bending the first second I heard it.

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JYKNqvsbKw- Stark/Arya theme

This was the song that was playing when Arya was on the boat to Braavos, I mean what a powerful song, it's so good, the beginning is the general Stark theme which is great song in itself, but this stepped it up a notch and this is just epicness in my headphones.

3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3cDLnkYs30- Chaos is a Ladder - Theme to Petyr Baelish

Ahh another one of my favorites, Littlefinger himself, though I like book LF more, I felt like this song really captured LF, it starts out rather quiet but then ends with a really menacing flourish, understated but in truth a very powerful...just like LF

4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EF2t4hFGzo- Finale - One of Dany's great songs

I'll be honest with you, I am not a Dany fan, however the show sure gives her really great theme songs, this song was from the end of Season 1 when Dany's eggs hatched and man was this song so good...it's definitely one of the most powerful songs in the series....she has 2 other great theme's as well "Mhysa" and "Dracaris" 2 great themes that are both in my top 10, however this song is the best one.

5) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfzdEnQFyGc- Valar Morghulis - Jaqen H'Ghar/Arya

This song is just a really cool song, it has an aura of mystery about it and everytime you heard it on screen you know something cool was happening, I think it really captured the mysterious aura of Jaqen and the wonder Arya felt from The Man Jaqen H'Ghar.

All great songs and there are so many more, a testament to Mr. Ramin Djawadi, I mean there are so many other great songs like "The Night's Watch", "Dracaris", "Mhysa" and of course "The Rains of Castamere" and the main theme. A great score.

Good thread. There is so much of his score that I enjoy but here are some that come to mind:

House of Black and White Theme

Valar Morghulis

The Kings Arrival (from the pilot when Robert arrives)

The Things I Do For Love (ending scene of the pilot, interestingly enough also was played this season when Arya told Jacquen about her day)

Heroic Oberyn Theme (can't find it, but it plays when Tyrion enters the arena for the trial by combat, and during the ending credits)

Ahh yeah The Kings Arrival almost made my list and as well as The Things I Do For Love, Season 1 had some great themes. I also believe they played The Things I Do for Love at the end of episode where Ned is watching Arya and Syrio water dance.

Yup. That was one of my favorite episode endings.

Also from s1:

A Raven from Kings Landing (put to good use on the TellTale game trailer)

Await the Kings Justice (still gets played during the credits sometimes)

I agree. Music is one of the strong points of the show thanks to the man Ramin Djawadi. This show has the best music. Its too difficult to choose 5 from it because I like almost all of the tracks and my top 5 changes from time to time. So I am listing one per character/house themes.

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoPnrbKOEl8- Breaker of chains.

In my opinion, Dany has the best themes in the show. I could list all the 5 from her themes alone. If I have to stick to one then I choose this. This ironically named soundtrack plays while she is chaining up her dragons. This track perfectly captures her inner struggles and chaining her own dragon identity. A melancholic variation plays when Drogon meets her at the top of her pyramid. And an uplifting and triumphant variation gets played when she finally bonds and mounts her dragon and the moment when she embraces her dragon identity. Its a powerful and a beautiful theme.

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3cDLnkYs30 -Warrior of Light.

Stannis has some of the coolest and badass themes in the show and this is the best. My second favorite of the character themes. This track chills me to the bones and I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I like the mysterious vibe in the music. One of the best in the show.

3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jERdloSRJEw- A Lannister Always pays his debts

I like every variation of Rains of Castamere. This one the best, imo. One word "Epic".

4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIX98vFel0Y- What is Dead May Never Die

I like all ironborn themes but like this best. It plays while Theon burns Robb's Letter followed by his Baptism? scene. The first portion is a stark theme which slowly changes into the Greyjoy theme showing Theon choosing Greyjoy over Stark. I guess it is the same one which plays when Yara gives her badass speech. One of the coolest.

5) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT3REtHZK9Y -The North Remembers.

Among Stark themes I like this and the "King in the North" the best.

Just realized A Raven From Kings Landing is a variation of Littlefingers theme

yeah Breaker of Chains is a really good song, almost forgot about, I just call it the sad Dragon music lol, but it's very good and haunting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei0L2LSfpLc- The Night's Watch

This song is powerful

Since some of my favorites have already been mentioned, I'm gonna add:

-Mhysa, from the season 3 finale. Dany always gets the best songs: Finale, Dance of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons, all great but this one takes the cake. The chanting in high valyrian using lines from her speech was an amazing touch. I know a lot of people dont like it because before we saw the episode we all thought the last note meant Stoneheart but I've come to terms with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t987p0f9y54

-Two Swords, from the season 4 cold opening. A slow rendition of the Stark theme that turns into the Rains of Castamere. And when you hear it as Tywin gets Ice melted it really makes you feel like the Starks are done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nk4LERJSthk

The Rains of Castamere.

The Bear and the Maiden Fair

The Stark Theme

I love the main theme of Game of Thrones. Also most of the renditions

Like the Swamp Donkeys Jazz version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itn8highTRo

and this one with Lindsey Stirling and Peter Hollens in costume :)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oNpmSAvpGQ

Ramin is a genius. The reason why they have never given him an Emmy is completely beyond me. My favorite themes by season:

All Seasons: Game of Thrones Main Theme.

Season 1: Finale (Dany becomes the mother of Dragons, my favorite scene in the whole series and the music is one of the main reasons).

Season 2: The Rains of Castamere (The National's version. Listening it during the credits after Blackwater was absolutely epic).

Season 3: A Lannister Always Pays His Debts (essentially, an instrumental version of The Rains of Castamere and a brilliant one) and Dracarys (the perfect score for one of the best scenes in the whole series).

Season 4: The Children (beautiful, from start to finish).

Season 5: High Sparrow (I like that ecclesiastical, solemn but menacing flavor) and Throne For The Game (a bonus track actually, but I love it. I can not help remembering For The Watch every time I listen it :crying:).
