GRRM on Emmy nominations

Unlike the haters GRRM actually knows the limitations of writing for screen, so he understands the challenges D+D face.

He gets a lot of unjustified criticism over book 4 and 5 so he also knows that haters gonna hate.

In all fairness, D&D have been restrained as well. They were led to believe that George would be Nearing completion by this point and he hasn't done so.

Good point, D&D could not wait on a GRRM time scale. Sansa has had 3 -4 pov chapters to date starting back in 2000 = 15 years. Just as an example. However, D&D have taken a lot of creative liberties where there is plenty of source material. Much of those liberties in the last 2 seasons are not well received in some Qtrs but as long as the spectacular and shocking events occur, the nominations will keep coming.

You means GRRM received same scale of criticism over book 4 and 5? Man! you are good! And of course I know the challenges D&D face, I never challenge their work ethnic, I am pretty sure they have tried their best in the season 5

Basically.

George Nartin is too busy being a celeb to write the books, Benioff and Weiss wouldn't be adapting other people's work if they had the drive and talent to write a genre-redefining series, the last two seasons are going to be utter shit, and one of the people responsible for it will be chilling in the bahamas between two nerd conventions while the other two will be sniffing blow and their own farts somewhere in Hollywood.

A morality tale for our time I suppose.

LOL at the people who believe GRRM would give a negative comment.

and that in S1 Sandor was suposed to explain his background to Sansa, but the scene couldn't be shot because of bad weather and later on the actor was unavailable (and the monologue was transfered to Littlefinger).

IICR, that explanation has been debunked.

Here's the sad fact, D&D are at the point where they are approaching material without much more than a very detailed outline of the endgame. Before it was easier to see what was necessary to keep in and what needed to be cut because you knew what the results and consequences of all those little details. It's why for instance in season 2 we didn't get the book version of the Undying because quite frankly a lot of the foreshadowing didn't overtly payoff at that point.

The narrative is expanding and it's harder to see the where things are leading (at least without an actual book giving the comprehensive canon of it).

So the options are adapt everything as best they can from the notes GRRM gave them or do there own thing. Obviously they decided that the better option is to stick with GRRM's vision, but now they are out on their own when considering what to change and what to cut.

For instance imo (predicting the plot as I see it) the books are probably leading to Dorne and Aegon teaming up to conquer KL and ousting the Lannisters before Dany gets there. Thus setting up the second Dance. D&D decided obv thought it was easier to cut Aegon and to "most likely" give Dorne another reason to start a war with the Lannister's because they felt like Aegon was too much of an addition when Dorne was already established in season 4. Even though GRRM will probably give the Aegon story more resonance in the books and make it worth it.

So unfortunately we got a disjointed Dorne arc because the decision to cut Aegon forced them to make up their own storyline to get Dorne in a position to do what they "possibly" will do under different circumstances in the book.
