atonement
I have two questions from ADWD. Who were the two children whom Bran see in Winterfell in his first vision from the cave? ... He was unable to recognize both of them. And also who was the man beheaded near the weirwood? Was that of any significance or just random facts? spoon89
The visions Bran that are tied to the hearttree in the Winterfell godswood, seem to be in a inverse chronological order starting closer to his time, and going back in time as he gets further into the vision (the weirwood shrinks). The two children playing at stick swords are most likely Lyanna and Benjen. Ned had mention to Arya in AGoT that she looked like Lyanna and that she would have carried a sword if their father had allowed her to. Of the beheaded mans identity we have no clue, but the scene does give us some information about the time period that it occurs in. Since it is the last (earliest) vision the bronze sickle likely indicates that it happen previous to the Andal invasion (6000 PC), and that female priestesses were making human sacrifices to the old gods, at the weirwood tree at the time.
