KingStannisFan
Would he really have catapulted Edmure's baby, or do you think it was an empty threat meant to scare them? Also, Why would he have to take Riverrun and give it to the Freys? Even Jaime would have been appalled at the Red Wedding. Does he not believe in punishing the Freys for their crimes? The Ned's Little Girl
Why wouldn't he be serious? There's no point in making threats if you're not prepared to carry them out.
AerionBrightflameII
Mixed feelings...Before the loss of his hand i think he might have done but after?? I think it was mostly bravado. Jaime knows that most everybody thinks he is a vile oathbreaker capable of all things bad but i think he just sort of capitalizes on it, he seems to find it amusing to pretend to be what everybody thinks and to pretend it doesn't cut deep. Everytime he even tries to be good in his POV's people seem to spit at him. I think he's mostly at the point where he doesn't care what people think and expresses it with gallows humor.. sweetsunray
Emmon Frey and Genna Lannister were not present at the RW since they sided with the Lions from the start. But yeah, it's grating that Lannisters and Freys are Lord of RR now, for us. But possibly GRRM might use them later to betray the Freys of the Twins. Emmon Frey is not that far down the succession line, if Ryman and his sons can get offed. Emmon Frey is 6th in line. ETA: correction Ryman is already hanged supposedly by the BwB at the end of Feast. Making Emmon 5fth. If Emmon stands to lose RR in the plot I can see him being very cooperative to take down the Freys of the Twins to become Lord of the Twins. Dofs
He was not serious. All that threat with sending Rivermen first, then Frey, then Westermen and then with destroying Riverrun and diverging a river over it was a complete BS from start to finish. Jaime obviously was not going to destroy the castle that was given to his aunt and uncle and he himself thought before that if he will have to storm the castle, he himself will be on the front lines. Hence his threat to throw Edmure's son with a trebuchet was a bluff as well.
Consigliere
I think it was an empty threat. He was relying on his reputation as a man with "shit for honour" to give weight to the threat and it worked. As to your second question: Jaime did not give Emmon and Genna anything. They were awarded Riverrun by the crown. Jaime was simply carrying out the orders.
The Bold Wolf
The Crown gave Emmon Frey Riverrun. It wasn't Jaime's to give away, he was just doing what he was told. I don't think Jaime would throw a baby from a trebuchet. He only tossed Bran from the window to protect his relationship with Cersei. All Jaime really has now is threats now that his sword hand is gone. Like stated above, people have a low opinion of him already, so they might take him seriously when he gives out threats like that. On a side note, I think Robb has Jaime's respect. He captured him in the Whispering Wood, and never lost a battle against his Lord Father. I could see Jaime being angry and repulsed by the Freys betrayal, and killing Robb at a wedding, and not in battle.

I don't think Jaime even considered the possibility of having to actually go through with the threat. He says it because he knows what Edmure thinks of him, and thus won't think it's a bluff. Also, why would Jaime have a problem with giving Riverrun to his aunt? He makes his distaste for the Freys clear, but he still abides by the deals his father made. Same thing with Sybell Spicer. Plus, he takes all the hostages.
Consigliere
What crown? Tommen? lol Does it matter? Tommen is king. He stamped a decree that awarded Riverrun to Emmon and Genna.

The Bold Wolf
What crown? Tommen? lol Tommen's seal is on it but the Crown aka the people in charge in Kings Landing, gave Emmon Frey Riverrun. I don't remember if it was Tywin before he was killed.
Chinoiserie
I do not think Jaime meant it or that he is as dedicated to making only threats he can keep the way Tywin and Tyrion are.

Prince of the North
I believe Jaime very sincerely hoped Edmure wouldn't call his bluff. But, if Edmure had, then I believe Jaime would have followed through or he'd risk having people not take any threat he makes seriously.

If he talked about empty threats after his speech to Edmure, you would have a stronger case. But really, do you believe that Jaime would have burned the keeps and towers of Riverrun, pulled down its walls and diverted the Tumblestone over the ruins? All the while Emmon is running around screaming at everyone so they don't make even a scratch on the castle? :wideeyed:
