MerlingManderly
First post, long time lurker. So I was doing a reread of ASOS and was checking something from Frey family tree, when this caught my eye: Ryman is the only Frey whose spouse is not named in the appendix, which is a bit strange since he was heir to the Twins after his father Stevron died. Ryman's son Edwyn is now the heir and other son Black Walder after him. Could Ryman's wife's House reveal something about Frey clan's future? GRRM has mentioned that House sigils and words have part to play in the story. Both Ryman and his son Petyr Pimple were hanged by the Brotherhood without banners. House Trant's sigil is a hanged man so perhaps Ryman's wife was a Trant. If House Trant's sigil reveals fate of House Frey, maybe that's why GRRM didn't include lady Trant in Frey family tree? Any other ideas?
sweetsunray
Possibly. Or with all them Freys he lost track and overlooked it?

MerlingManderly
Possibly. Or with all them Freys he lost track and overlooked it? At first I also thought that it was just a mistake. But after checking through the appendix, I thought it was weird that Ryman's wife isn't named even though Ryman is the heir to the Twins and all the less important Freys' spouses are named. I'd just think someone would have mentioned this to GRRM if it was pure mistake.
AerionBrightflameII
I honestly don't think she is of real importance, Most likely the whole point of Ryman Frey was for him to die and the battle for succession to heat up between the rightful heir Edwyn Frey and Black Walder, who according to all Freys hate each other with a passion. This was another thing why I thought Ryman's wife's family mattered. Maybe the Frey brothers' hatred towards each other held some significance? Brothers that hate each other are in such families like Baratheons, Greyjoys, Cleganes. Another clue could be Edwyn's and Black Walder's dark hair and their thin/wiry appearance. Edwyn is supposed to be cold but full of hate and not very good with swords. While Black Walder is supposed to have hot temper and be martial and scaled the walls of the Crag with Smalljon Umber. No they were raised to encourage in fighting as it was, Walder Frey is a piece of shit but he looks after his own. Black Walder also banged his sisters. SECRET TARGARYENS!!! No. He has not slept with his sisters but; He has maintained numerous affairs with several women, including cousins and the wives of his close relations. There is talk that he bedded the wives of his brothers Edwyn and Petyr, his niece Fair Walda and his half-cousin Amerei Frey, among others. Black Walder is also rumoured to have maintained a relationship with Lord Walder's seventh wife, Annara Farring. All of those relations may cast doubt over the paternity of many of the newborn Freys, including the young heiress Walda Frey and her cousin Perra, or Lord Walder's six children with Annara. He refuses to marry according to Merrett Frey.
Lady Blackmont
Cousins, which is not considered a big deal.Half sisters, not cousins. Apparently Westeros makes a big deal out of that distinction too, even though there's no genetic difference. Still, incest.
Drekinn
That's a nice observation. I didn't catch it before. The house words could apply to the BWB as well.

Lady Sharya
It's probably just' Heh' Or Family, Duty, Honor...Mayhaps I made a family tree of Freys once...rediculous large. Idk who Ryman's wife was. It's a good question though. There may be significance in what house she belongs to. As a side, I think Old Nan is Lord Walder's sister...

Grayce Hornwood
It's more likely that she's dead and doesn't hold any significance. Like someone else said, there's a shit ton of Freys to keep up with; it's not surprising that there's a few holes here and there.
Ruby Fforde
I didn't say she hasta LIKE the weasel.;) She knows too many stories about ice spiders and other things that go bump in the night to be from the Riverlands. She's got to be a Northerner through and through.
