The Harpy 7.0

I'll be paying close attention here - sadly I know so little about those freaks in Mereen.  Maybe it's their weird names?

Same here. Maybe it's their flamboyant attire & hautiness. If I had to guess, I'd go with The Green Grace like LC Dolorous says.

If the Shavepate is the Harpy, things might go horribly bad to our good guys in Mereen (Selmy, Grey Worm etc) when the battle starts, right?

I'm sorry I forget.  In the books do the Harpy's wear masks?  Or am I correct in thinking the Harpy's haven't even been seen yet?

I do know Shavepate's Beasts wear those wild masks though - was that the show giving book hints who their leader's identity.

No  :cool4:

The Harpy refers to pre-Dany Meereen.  There's nobody named Jethro Tull in the band Jethro Tull, and there's nobody in Meereen who goes by the title of The Harpy.

Now who leads the SOTH is a more inreresting question.  Like most guerrilla uprisings it probably has a steering  comittee of cell leaders.  The Green Grace may be the unofficial leader in the way that Olenna unofficially leads the Tyrells, but we don't know.

Not the leader:  Hizdar.  Imagine a teenage boy who enjoys nothing but video games.  When video games are outlawed, suddenly he's a political activist.  If Hizdar ever cared about anything but the fighting pits I missed it.

Just grabbed this off the wiki.....

“ We will rue your old man’s honor before this game is done.%5B5%5D
– Skahaz, to Barristan Selmy

What the hell is he talking about?  Couldn't be threatening Barry?

but wasn't this line about Barristan not wanting to kill the children(cupbearers)? If so I don't see a necessary threat, just a remark that Shakaz would have done it different

Actually, Hizdhar does care about Meereen. Or rather, Meereen in its former glory. I don't have the exact quote right now, but he delivers a sort of speech to Dany about how Meereen was once this glorious city state, but it had become stagnant, rooted in age old customs/traditions that held them back. Then Dany came along and shook things up, and he believes this is an opportunity for Meereen to become great again. I happen to think he is telling the truth here, or mostly telling the truth. What he is omitting, imo, is that he wants to lead Meereen in this new glory, and Dany is only a stepping stone for him to do so.

Eta: As for the Harpy, I think there is more than just one behind the scenes plot going on there. On one side you have The Shavepate, who can't let the Old Nobility of Meereen retain power because it puts him in a dangerous position. So he pulls certain strings to keep Dany from reconciliation with them. On the other side you have The Green Grace, Hizdhar and Reznak, who want Dany to embrace Meereenese culture and up then use her to facilitate change and bring Meereen to some semblance of its ancient 'glory' before discarding her.

My guess is that it's the Green Grace.Like Robb mentioned to Bran it's not the loud ones you need to fear (GreatJon)It's those who keep quiet and watch you closely not letting you know how they feel (Roose). And you have the Green Grace free to move about as she pleases to every pyramid without it being strange. And she seems like a kindly lady...who has somehow managed to survive in a ruthless society. That would be like Granny Smith being with the Skagosi for decades. She may seem nice but she has lasted that long for a reason.

Since the Harpy is a female mythological creature, and the Green Grace has known things she should not have known without conspiring with the sons of the harpy, she seems like the logical candidate.  I agree the Shavepate has his own agenda, but I do not think he is with the sons of the harpy.

That might represent a diversity of passions for Hizdar, but for 2 things.

The bold new Meereen speech is part of a larger effort to reopen the fighting pits.  So he may be saying what he thinks will get him what he wants.  I've heard that some guys will do that.

He's also lying.  He isn't the leader of anything, but he is connected to the SOTH.  We know because the Green Grace recommends him for Dany's husband, and because he stops the killings.  SOTH represent the aspirations if the dispossessed slavers.  To them, Dany is the darkest face of evil.  They wouldn't tolerate moderates among them who don't want to kill her.

In any case, I don't see Hizdar doing the drudgery of recruiting new cells and settling squabbles among cell leaders.
