Robert Baratheon's view on the War of Five Kings.

Recommended Posts

The King is dead but his ghost watches on, how does he feel about the major players in the war and it's events?

A question broken into a million sub questions apologies for the jumble.

I can imagine Robert bellowing to Ned in his cups about how foolish his brothers were to go to war with each other. Which brother would he have liked to see succeed as his heir? Would he have been disgusted by how Renly died? Does he want Stannis to fail? Does he blame himself for not being a better brother to both?

Is his hate solely on Cersei and Jaime or does he want his three believed children to die as well? Did the Red Wedding shock him or did he expect something like this from Tywin?  How did he feel about Joffrey's death? Sad that the child he raised as his son died? Or happy that one of Cersei's abominations was gone? I'd imagine his sides were bursting at Tyrion's he did not shit gold quip and Tywin's manner of death. I bet he enjoyed Cersei's walk of shame too. How does he view Jaime's path of redemption?

Did he admire Robb and want to see him win Independence and vengeance?

He must curse Lysa and Little Finger's plotting that killed his father figure.

He must be dreading the potential restoration of the Targ Dynasty.

First off, I think Robert would hate Joffrey for Killing Ned. Robert already hit Joffrey pretty hard for "that incident with the cat", so I could see Robert wanting Joffrey dead for his actions.

I think he would be angry with Renly for trying to steal Stannis' right to the throne, and by dividing house Baratheon's power by doing so, and taking a risk that the succession would not pass to Stannis or Renly because of his idiocy.

I could see Robert urging Robb Stark to join with Stannis like Ned did with himself in his rebellion, and overwhelm the Lannister's.

Robert always took pleasure in Tywin's misfortune or embarrassments, like when Balerion the cat stole the food from his hand and he almost ruptured something laughing, so Tyrion killing Tywin might be a funny moment for him, but I'm not sure where Kinslaying stands with him. Although Tyrion's quip probably had him laughing.

Robert probably would have taken a vindictive pleasure in Cersei's walk of shame, knowing that she brought it upon herself with he scheming, all the while thinking that she was just as clever as Tywin.

I think Robert, like the rest of the realm, see Jaime as a soiled knight with "shit for honor" so his redemption is really his own at this point.

Lysa and Littlefinger killing Jon Arryn would most likely send him into a fury, but theres nothing he can do about it now but watch. Probably enjoyed Lysa getting pushed out the Moon Door.

As the for the Targaryen's, I don't think he would fear them, as much as he would want to yell at the people for squabbling at each other while Danaerys amasses armies and has 3 dragons.

All in All, I doubt Robert is enjoying his rest.

1. He's pissed as hell that none of his kids are actually his kids.

2. He's incensed that Cersei managed to help him to his death.

3. He's mad at himself for playing into Cersei's hands and never suspecting her.

4. He's angry that Ned was killed, but happy that the two of them are together again in the afterlife.

5. He grudgingly acknowledges that Stannis is right in claiming the throne, but thinks he's too much of a hard-ass for being anti-KITN.  He would generally prefer that Renly rule except that he will always consider Renly as his baby brother.

6. He'd want to kick Balon Greyjoy's ass all over again.

7. He'd really wish he could legitimize all of his bastards.

8. He'd root for Robb, especially as he's kicking Tywin's butt all over the battlefields and captured Jaime.

9. He's still reeling from the first post-death conversation with Lyanna and/or Rhaegar.

ETA: 10. He'd laugh his royal posterior off when Tywin gets killed in the privy.

Do you think he'd wish ill on Tommen and Myrcella too who are largely innocent? I had forgotten about the Balerion the cat thing. Robert was probably one of the few people in the realm who wasn't afraid to laugh in the face of Tywin and Stannis.

I'd be more curious about Robert's reaction once Ned shows up in the afterlife and finally tells him about Jon, or when Dany births dragons and starts conquering cities.  Does he go to Ned "I told you so," or "oh, shit, she's gonna save the world?"

I think in terms of WOT5K, he'd obviously be seething at Cersei, saying 'typical' about the Greyjoys, rooting for Robb and remarking he's a good namesake, telling Ned "see, this is why I liked you more than my brothers," and laughing his ass off at Tywin getting his ass kicked by Robb/Killed on the Shitter/Jaime losing his hand.  I think Robert would also have a good laugh out of Tyrion defeating his hard-ass brother at Blackwater.

I'm guessing he'd have been more moved by the death of Ned's son than Renly. I tried to avoid the R+L=J stuff as we still don't even know, but hopefully he rest in peace as regards Lyanna finally. Yes as regards Dany I'd be interested to know what he thinks about Ser Barristan joining her Queensguard. And if after viewing some of the horrible things the new regime has been responsible for would he still be opposed to a Targ ruler? As regards dragons and others I think he'd love to be alive and young again leading the charge with his war hammer.

At this point he d obviously want stannis to win. He might have not gotten along with him, but he d prefer his brother to lannisters of targaryens.

Yeah, but I think it's a fair question to ask if he'd support Stannis over Renly.  Renly seemed to have a personality more to his liking, and probably went out of his way to flatter him.  Stannis was a stick in the mud who got all pissy just because Robert screwed a bridesmaid in his marriage bed.

Robert seemed to get along with Renly better than stannis but I think if he was at the parley between stannis and renly, he tell them both to stop the bullshit, he would turn to renly and say "you know stannis isn't gonna let this go, so just let him be king and lets get to killing lannisters"

Probably, but I think more than anything Robert would be fed up with both of them.

I'm not 100% convinced that he would. While he obviously hates the Lannisters and Targs. Daenerys hasn't done anything to Robert and mightn't be tainted with the mad half of the Targ coin. While Stannis it could be argued murdered their brother Renly for the throne with blood magic. This might have turned Robert against Stannis.

Yeah, but he did try to send an assassin after her, even if he changed his mind about it on his death bed.

As an anonymous potentially mad Targ bringing a dorthraki horde to Westeros. Maybe with some perspective he might not be completely opposed to Dany given the alternatives. I think after the manner Renly died, Robert would have wanted to see Robb succeed.

Robert would probably notice the host of angry Reachmen behind them if they did that. He'd probably just tell Stannis to shut up because his rights aren't worth throwing away powerful alliances and a chance to actually defeat the Lannisters. I can't see Robert ever approving of Stannis having his brother killed by a shadow baby for something like his rights.

he d be furious and heartbroken about what happened to renly but after he calms down he d still want stannis on the throne to continue the baratheon dynasty. Robert would definitely not want Daenerys to get anywhere near the iron throne and if he heard about dany becoming queen in meereen he want her dead.

if renly listens to Robert what the fuck are the Tyrells gonna do? they wanna fight robert, stannis and Renly? Robert would love to beat them into submission.

No if Robert told renly to bend the knee to stannis and he listened the tyrells would begrudgingly do the same.
