Ser Scot A Ellison
If you are in the middle seat aren't you supposed to get both armrests?

Cashless Society
I always assumed that's the reason why nobody wants the middle seat. But to answer the question; isn't one person suppose to put his/her arm/elbow towards the edge of the armrest, while the other puts his/her arm towards the back; as uncomfortable as that may be? The BlackBear
If they don't give you the armrest, put your arm around their shoulders.

Tempra
I'm surprised airlines don't charge a fee for the privilege of using the armrests.

Solmyr
Didn't we have a similar thread about half a year ago? :) Too bad the search function isn't working.
Lummel
I misread the topic question and thought this was about Ser Scot needing a second to resolve a question of southern honour :( or perhaps I could be relieved instead?
Fragile Bird
my mama lied. sometimes there are stupid questionsThat was my reaction, but after I looked at the link Relic put up, I see that the consensus is the middle person gets both armrests, the aisle person has the aisle armrest, the window person has the window armrest, and you get rewarded with both for sitting in the middle. Otherwise, one of the other two would have two armrests, wouldn't they.Handy to know that, since I have a bloody middle seat flying to Spokane.Trickier question, though - if flying on a very big jet and you have one of the two middle seats in a row of 4, who gets two arm rests? :P

You tensely and silently wrestle for it the whole way through.

Elder Sister
I always try to get the window seat on the right side of the plane, and I always assume the middle seat gets the armrest to my left. However, I have had people encroach into my space (after initial settling into their seat), and several big men that practically leaned on me. When this happens, I do this thrashing thing that is almost like I'm having a seizure and then they move and almost never encroach upon me again. The last time I was in the middle seat I fell asleep on some poor guy and drooled.

Inigima
I generally regard the armrests as a no-man's-land, unused except to separate the people in the seats they are between.
