Should I book now?

Recommended Posts

Out of boredom, I was browsing the interweb for flights leaving from Cleveland to Dallas in late March. I ended up coming across flights from United Airlines that are going for $188. I would have immediately booked that, except for the fact that I came across this article and it suggests that, on average, the optimal booking time would be 47 days out, and that you're gonna get the absolute best fares between three and four months out. The trip would be from March 29th to April 5th. So, boarders, what would y'all do?

This may be one of the "satisficer vs maximizer" situations we've read about. Right now you're thinking as a maximizer, trying to get the absolute best deal you can. Even if you succeed, you've spent time and mental bandwidth for what probably won't be much of a gain anyway. And it might NOT work out to your advantage.

If you're satisfied with it as a good price, take it and don't look back. If it gets a little cheaper, well, you still got a good price, no big deal. If it doesn't, or gets more expensive, great, it worked out for the best.

To me this question is like asking whether to take a Blackjack hit when your sitting at 20.
Book that asap at that price.
