People's Choice - Top 100 Characters *Complete List*

Good News: I added total # of votes for each character (as promised) and, more importantly, the complete results are *finally* here!  :commie:

Bad News: While attempting to update the OP, I erased the character descriptions for our Top 2  :dunce: I'm sure most of you won't care much but I'm very frustrated after putting quite a bit of thought/time into them... It won't happen tonight but I will add the descriptions in the near future.

If you haven't voted yet, the poll is ongoing: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/134263-favorite-asoiaf-characters/ It will not affect this results page (which includes the first 241 votes), but will factor into an updated list further down the road.

Here are the Top 100 characters in ASoIAF, as voted by the good people of this forum:

#3-#5:
5. Davos Seaworth (2,094 pts) - Disclaimer: I'm a Davos fanboy. I can't make any promises but I'll try my best to minimize the bias. We often hear about the plight of the common folk while the high lords play their game of thrones. Well, no POV character understands this better than Davos. "Humble beginnings" is an understatement for a man raised in the slums of Flea Bottom- the armpit of the Seven Kingdoms. In order to survive/support his family, Davos became a smuggler by trade (and a successful one at that.) During the Siege of Storm's End, he saw an opportunity to capitalize on his expertise by sneaking onions and other food supplies past the Redwyne blockade. This ballsy expedition bought the Baratheon forces enough time to last until Ned's cavalry, ultimately ensuring a major victory for the rebellion. Davos received a knighthood for his contribution and inherited the semi-mocking nickname "Onion Knight," which he proudly embraced. His valor did not excuse his crimes, however, and Stannis saw fit to remove the fingers from his left hand as well. Rather than dwell on what seemed to be an excessive punishment, Davos expressed gratitude and memorialized Stannis' sense of justice by wearing the finger bones around his neck. After all, he was finally free from the burdens of his past and able to provide an honest living for his family. Honesty became a sort of trademark for this ex-smuggler, as well as the source of readers' affection. With street smarts, unwavering loyalty and fearless devotion to the truth, Davos won over Stannis' trust and solidified a leading advisory role on his counsel. And yet, even after being named Hand to the King, his big heart and humble nature remained wholesomely intact. Davos openly rejected Mel's fanaticism, prevented the sacrifice of Edric Storm, and stood up to the Freys with little to no regard for self-preservation. He never presumes to grasp any abstract/idealogical notion of right and wrong; he simply relies on his conscience to steer him in the right direction. The Onion Knight's courage and cunning is well-suited for his new mission- retrieving Rickon from Skaagos- and it's hard to imagine a better role model for the youngest Stark. Let's just hope he isn't too far gone... *12 first place votes; 153 lists (63.49%)*
4. Jaime Lannister (2,287 pts) - After pushing a seven-year old out of a window to conceal his twincestuous relationship, who would have guessed that Jaime Lannister would land the #4 spot on our list? Well, leave it to GRRM to sabotage the notion of clear-cut good guys and bad guys. Jaime was portrayed as a very bad guy in the early goings, and ill-repute preceded him long before he laid a finger on Bran. Putting a sword through the Mad King, the one he swore to protect at all costs, disgraced his name forever and simultaneously gave birth to a new one: Kingslayer. Rather than make an effort to justify his actions or redeem his legacy, Jaime began to internalize his defamation along with the weight of the world's contempt. Just like Tyrion's approach to dwarfism, he flaunted this prescribed persona as a defense mechanism designed to rob the critics of their ammunition. Unlike Tyrion, however, Jaime was not the man he set out to defend. Almost anyone would agree that breaking an oath was a small- dare I say admirable- price to pay for saving the population of King's Landing. Revealing this backstory to Brienne marked a soul-cleansing transformation for Jaime in his darkest hour; he had just lost his sword hand to Vargo Hoat and, consequently, his livelihood. Not only did he trust someone enough to expose the depths of his damaged psyche, but that someone rewarded his trust with open ears and an open heart. It's hard to imagine that Cersei would treat the situation with the same delicacy- which may have factored into Jaime’s eventual decision to let her go. Whatever his rationale, he's made it abundantly clear that he wants to change the course of his life with a rejuvenated sense of honor/accountability. Risking his life to save Brienne from a bear pit was only the beginning. Catelyn's presumed death provided an easy escape for the agreed-upon Sansa exchange, but that wouldn't stop Jaime from making a valiant effort to hold up his end of the bargain. Unfortunately, his efforts have yet to produce any results aside from a life-threatening predicament at the hands of the undead. *20 first place votes; 153 lists (63.49%)*
3. Arya Stark (2,402 pts) - Let's face it: unlike Jaime/Stannis/Sandor/etc, Arya was designed to be a fan favorite from the very beginning. What's not to love about a rebellious nine-year-old who would rather pass the time playing with swords than sewing needles? The constant plague of disapproval from Septa Mordane, Sansa, and even Cat put the young she-wolf at odds with the world, but only strengthened the affection of her fandom. After all, gender conformity is boring and everybody loves a free spirit. We quickly discovered that Arya's disregard for social norms extended to her relationships as well. She treated Jon like a brother, not a bastard, and befriended the likes of a butcher's boy as seamlessly as she would the son or daughter of a high lord. Despite her privileged lifestyle and impressionable youth, she always demonstrated an impressive ability to judge others on their character rather than the labels society created for them. Joffrey was (presumed to be) King Robert's eldest son and successor, but even that wouldn't stop Arya from standing up to his cruelty and threatening his life at her own expense. Whether it be impulse, courage, or a combination of the two, she always finds a way to act in accordance with what she feels is right. Sadly, her sense of justice took a morbid turn after family members started dropping like flies. She began to obsess over the people who wronged her and to recite their names religiously like some kind of dark prayer. Instead of letting go/moving on from the atrocities that haunt her past, she allowed this deep-seeded hatred to consume her existence and swore to exact revenge with help from the only god she knows: death. Well, it just so happens that the faceless men of Braavos already pay homage to this god, and that Jaqen H'ghar could buy Arya's entry into this cult of assassins. The House of Black and White may very well provide her with the tools to cross the remaining names off her list, but will the desire to do so prevent her from becoming "no one" as the Man-Faced God commands? From a reader's standpoint, we can only hope. The Arya Stark we know and love has unfinished business to attend to on the other side of the Narrow Sea. *30 first place votes; 160 lists (66.39%)*
I was hoping for the minute chance he was out of the top 100 completely when he didn't make 100-6. Sigh, at least it means he can't rank any higher

Well now... I can understand Davos indifference, but Davos hate? This is new to me.

Interesting, even after the reveal of the #5, Dany is still the character with the most first place votes by far (27), with only Stannis coming anywhere near (21). Can't wait to see how the top 4 stack up in that respect!

It would also be interesting to know on how many lists each candidate was.

Without further adieu...

Vocabulary nitpick, sorry, but I think you mean 'without further ado'. 'Ado' means 'fuss' or 'bother'. 'Adieu' means 'goodbye'.

I mean no disrespect because I am in awe of the hard work you've put into this endeavour. I just want to help make your masterpiece perfect :)

It would also be interesting to know on how many lists each candidate was.

Yes, this has been mentioned once before. I'm going to add this feature tonight.

Do people realise you're not getting paid to do this?

Wait.... are you getting paid to do this or something?? Seriously - well done man! Now I should get around to actually voting.
