Anyone reading the Red Rising series? (Spoilers, I guess)

Not perfect by any means, Brown's style is 99% tell, 1% show, most villains are disposable mustache-twirling non-entities, and Darrow is like a Mary Sue on steroids.

That said, I like the general idea of combining space-opera/sci-fi stuff with Ancient Rome regality. I think that's an interesting stylistic choice, and the books are page-turners, for sure. Golden Son is by far an improvement over Red Rising, and that ending, abrupt cliffhanger as it is, leaves the reader with plenty to talk and speculate.

What do you think? (Anyone else let down by Ares' identity?)
