Good Guy Garlan
I have to write a paper on a dystopian novel, or one about prison reform in the vein of "A Clockwork Orange", and I don't wanna use any of the usual suspects like Orwell or Huxley (plus, I'm a champion for relatively contemporary fiction). Oh, and the author has to be British, for some reason. So far I'm considering Laline Paull's "The Bees", Charles Stross' "Glasshouse", or going full Cultural Studies and using Warren Ellis' "Thunderbolts" run. Any recs? Muwhahaha
Anything Bacigalupi. Edit: Sorry, didn't read the British part. So......never mind.
Kalbear
Has to be British? You can't just use the Handmaid's Tale?
unJon
This may be helpful. But note usual caveats for Wikipedia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dystopian_literature ETA: do V is for Vendetta. Contemporary. Graphic Novel. Set in Britian. Actually could be perfect for your criteria.
Good Guy Garlan
Has to be British? You can't just use the Handmaid's Tale? Unfortunately, no. That was actually my first choice, but...Canadian. That's why I jumped to "The Bees", as it's basically "The Handmaid's Tale", but with bees :pThis may be helpful. HexMachina
How recent would you prefer the work to be? The Time Machine (H.G. Wells) for dystopian novel (rec purely because its on my mind after being brought up in the August reads thread) The Machine Stops (E.M. Forster) *mind goes blank* Is there any way you can use Cloud Atlas? For Sloosha and Somni maybe?
