Stannis, Rickon, and Theon

Recently, I read the tWoW Theon sample chapter, where the end is revealing that Theon is to be executed. I believe that in George R.R. Martin fashion, Theon is to confess that he did not in fact kill the Stark brothers, but Stannis will not believe him, and will execute him. Soon after Theon's death, Davos will arrive with Rickon Stark, and all of Stannis' men will flock to him.

Does that include Stannis' men from the South? Because them flocking to Rickon wouldn't make any sense. Also, Rickon being alive doesn't mean that they still can't support Stannis. Stannis would likely install Rickon as Lord of Winterfell.

Theon's execution would actually make very little sense for Stannis due to his short term and long term goals. With Theon alive and well he has a bloodless way to remove the Iron Born from the North and the rest of the seven kingdoms (at least for a little while if things do not work out in his favor in the long term). Theon may be scheduled for execution but he will end up "escaping".

No.  Just no.

Theon will live through the end of the books.  What is dead may never die.  Why is this hard to understand? GRRM hasn't put him through all he has for nothing.

I agree that Theon will live for a while into the future, maybe through the end of the series. But him being ironborn is not while he will live. Think of Balon, who was 1000 times more ironborn than Theon, and how he died by supposedly falling off a bridge during a storm (which is totally not what happened). I think Theon has a great chance of living because of how he had basically become part Stark, having strong ties to the North as well as the Iron Islands.

theon isnt gnna die just yet, stannis wants rickon alive which will help him claim north more quicker so more northmen will join stannis if stannis is dead then all of them might just join rickon but i doubt southeron lords will have any cause to do so....

theon isnt gnna die just yet because his death wont impact the story much so he might just do something shocking before he dies like killing ramsey..

Stannis could keep Theon alive and then send him back to the Iron Islands w Yara to claim his rightful Seastone Chair and then align with Stannis as a debt for sparing his life. Obviously that's not going to go over well with Euron and would take a total rebirth of the character Theon so I'd be curious to see what happens there.

That's not a bad progression for Stannis to install Theon and demand fealty.  Of course, that would have to happen after Euron is deposed or whatever it is that happens to those on the Seastone Chair.  My thinking is Euron will be around for a while yet.   Theon is the biggest dark spot in Winds.   What is going to happen to this guy?   I can see Asha overthrowing her nuncle while her other nuncle Aeron creates some sort of mischief but Theon couldn't really play a part in any of it, he's barely remembering his name, much less who he is.   There is mention of a (real, not a Greyjoy)  kraken being spotted during a small council meeting in Dance.  Things are going to get very interesting on the Iron Islands.   All I can see is holding Theon for the aftermath of all the Ironborn drama to come.   He's got to do something in the mean time.   Bran's got something in mind for him and Asha seems to care what happens so this will be good seeing what GRRM comes up with for Theon.

Aeron is looking for a way to oust Euron. Theon's absence at the kingsmoot which elected Euron, gives Aeron a chance to call a new kingsmoot. Where things go from there...

I was also thinking along thses lines. Though I'm not sure how successful Aeron would be, especially because Theon is a wreck and if Euron is still at large.

As to "Stannis's men" flocking to Rickon. The northmen might well do that but Stannis's own, southron men won't.

^It doesn't have to be Theon they elect.  They could elect Asha now that Vic won't be around the split the vote.  Also, if Euron gets beaten at Oldtown like a lot of people think, just like Urathon Good Brother wound up causing his people more harm than good, when he tries to get re-elected the people will not follow him again.

Ah, of course... I just thought of Theon because of the precedent with Urathon Goodbrother. I don't have my books with me so can't check but didn't the kingsmoot choose Urathon in the absence of his brother and then later the said brother (sorry, forget his name) called the kingsmoot invalid and got himself elected instead. That's why I was thinking along the lines of brothers/uncles and Theon, completely forgetting Asha. [hits self over the head with a hammer]

Ya so what happened is that the king died and his brother called a kingsmoot and won the election over the kings younger sons, who he then killed.  A year later the eldest son returned and called a new kingsmoot that he won.  But the point is that a new kingsmoot was called, and anyone can submit their name at a kingsmoot.

I think that between losses at Oldtown, the Redwyne fleet showing up and the Tyrells reacting to the Iron Born incursion into the reach, that Euron and the Iron Born will take a beating, ergo they won't choose Euron again.

[spoiler24]Cleftjaw still holds Torrhen's Square so I think Asha, Theon and the other Iron Born will "escape" there, then head out to the Isles to find Aeron.[/spoiler24]

^Ya I basically agree, tho I think Euron will have some success before ultimately being defeated at Oldtown.  I see him destroying the Redwyn fleet 1 way or the other, and defeating Garlans force at the shields, Harras Harlaw killing Garlan with Nightfall.  I also think its possible he will get killed by Sam or Alleras as both scenarios, him being killed and Theon calling a new kingsmoot both seem to have been foreshadowed, 1 has to be the Red Herring.
