I am officially addicted to Steven Universe...

Yeah this is one of the better shows on TV. I love the unfolding of the relationships between the characters, learning about the Gem Homeworld, and the amusing comedy.

I don't necessarily love every episode, a few can drag IMO, but part of that may just be my mood at the time.

Yeah, some of them can drag, but most shows are like that sometimes. I just love all the relationships and love that Steven shows for everyone. My whole family stops to watch it when it comes on. I was so thrilled to see that Garnet was a fusion the whole time. Wow. Hope to learn more about the homeworld and history of the war for Earth soon.

This show is the most interesting bit of psychology in my house. Not the show itself, but how my various children react to it.

Twin #1 loves it, and watches unironically. He's 13, an optimist, and empathetic. He's following the plot, the new powers, still has a sense of wonder, basically watching it like the target demographic that he is.

His twin brother witty/ sarcastic/ sardonic, and is better served by Gumball. He will watch Steven Universe if it's on, but he's got a bit of a "this is kids stuff" attitude, also typical of a teenage boy, and yet entirely different than his brother.

If that was the extent of it, I wouldn't comment, but then there's the reaction of my 18 year old daughter. She loved Finn and Jake when it started, but as she's headed off to college, she is rarely watching TV, let along cartoons, anymore. However, a few months ago she stopped dead in her tracks and asked me if I realized what the boys really were watching. I had understood the underlying gender identity issues in the show, that's the world we live in, didn't bat an eyelash. But apparently everything with the new adversary gem is layered with bad relationship/ forced relationship language and imagery.

I'm OK with my kids watching "challenging" television, I'm not a prude parent. Much of it is going right over the 13 year old's heads like Bugs Bunny in drag did for us. But, uh, yeah, there are some real uncomfortable nuances to this show.
