Would you rather be you in real life, or a high noble Lord in ASOIAF?

A high noble lord who lives in a nice castle by the sea and has servants that on his back and call?

Man...that does sound tempting, particularly since I could play the role of scholar lord and let others do the fighting.

But I'd still be worried about the state of medical treatment in Westeros....no anesthetics.....no proper dental care.....maggots....ewww

Then there are bigger, spiritual issues with living in the ASoIaF universe (at last for me)

It is an appealing and romantic notion to live as a high noble Lord in Westeros, but even with all of the comforts that would bring it is still a brutal and uncomfortable world compared to the modern world we live in.  Lack of flush toilets, hot and cold running water, central heating and air conditioning, health care, automobiles, high speed internet, and on and on would be sorely missed.  Even living as a high lord the possibilities of getting mortally sick or injured would be much higher in Westeros.  I'll stick with what I know here.

After reading in another thread that even the highborn only bath about once a year :ack: I'll stick with the nice clean life I have.

Somehow I can imagine the Dornish bathing much more often and if I had to be a lord in Westeros I would accept nothing short of Dorne.

Hell, no.

No glasses available. Bathing once in a great while. Dentistry consisting of a paif of big tongs. Heating on the base of cooked front, frozen backside.

"Bathing" as in "jumping into a pond" (in the Dornish desert) or as in actually using soap? And what do you do in winter?
And do you jump back into your dirty clothes?

I was going to say that the water gardens don't sound so bad, then again, with all those children and no chlorine. :ack:

Yes, during spring/summer/autumn, and it's only for a couple dozen at best. The other three million Dornishmen? Tough luck.

And the clothes are still the same, unwashed ones you've been wearing for half a year.

I used to fantasize about being a lord in the world of asoiaf,I fancied the idea a lot,but after a lot of thought,I have decided I would rather live as I am,the pros of being a lord are that you would be rich, have a lot of servants to tend to all your needs(which I can never get in real life),plus having stables full of horses(I do love horses),I can get to build huge and beautiful castles and lots more pluses. Cons, lack of technology, you can't even take a picture, you have to rely on paintings and drawings, lack of good medical resources which results in a lot of people dying prematurely and women dying and child birth, another problem is transportation which takes many days in westeros depending on the distance,no internet which means limited knowledge, communication is mainly by the use of ravens when you can just call someone instantly and lots lots more that will take a long time to relate, just keep in mind that this is the middle ages,so I'd rather be me in the 21st century
