If they lie to Randyll and tell him Gilly's child is Sam's (which I'm guessing they will) then doesn't that make him the heir? How will Randyll react to this? I know in the books Randyll is not at Horn Hill when Gilly arrives, but the show will be different. Lord Tarly will be there and Sam will have to deal with his father. And Little Sam will be a total badass. I know it's not a major plot point by any stretch, but this is close to what I'm thinking / hoping. If Sam's brother dies then there is no other choice. Randyll's hand will be forced. As for Sam being bound to the NW, I think there will be major changes there - like the NW being wiped out and Sam left with nowhere to return to, thus relieving him of his vows. No, Randyll has daughters too, three of them, if Dickon died, then the Horn Hill will go to the eldest daughter Talla, Sam's "son" is a bastard, even he is somehow legitimized (by the way only father could legitimize his own bastard by the approved of the King), he is still behind in the inheritance order of Sam's sisters, so no, Sam's "son" would not become heir to Randayll Tarley Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That was what made Sam "expendable" to Lord Tarly. However, Sam is smart and knowledge is power, something jar headed lords do not seem to understand. We know that the Tarly clan are being introduced next season and it's likely that Sam will leave Gilly and lil' Sam in their care before he heads to OldTown. Two things will / could then happen. 1) The NW is wiped out by the wildings and/or the Others. No NW means nothing to go back to. 2) Randyll Tarly is called upon by Olenna or Mace to come to KL and fight the armed faith and regain control of the city. Randyll takes Dickon to fight alongside him and they die before they return home. Surely something like this is possible. I know people are saying Sam has sisters, but with no NW then Sam may become Lord of Hornhill and be the only southern Lord with knowledge of what's going on in the north. So his kids, even if they were legit (i.e. born in wedlock), would not have any legit claim. But it would make for a good family stoush, given Sam's kids (even if they are half wildling bastards) would want their revenge on their uncle/grandsire for Sam being involuntarily forced to relinquish his rightful claim. If Jon becomes king, and Sam has a child by Gilly, and Randyll and Dickon are both dead, then there's a possibility king Jon will legitimise Sam's child and allow him to inherit. He could rally the south for support. This is a very strong possibility. A character doesn't need to become heir to a great keep in order to have a happy or satisfying ending. If Randall and Dickon end up killed after going to King's Landing, Gilly and the baby might still very much be welcome in the Tarly household under Melessa in Horn Hill, even as just a handmaiden. Gilly would likely be quite happy and significantly more safe there. If presented as a bastard though, it's still unlikely that the baby would be heir though.
