What was your favorite superheroes' best story?

Recommended Posts

I loved the X-Men Morlock Massacre and Genosha storylines. The Scourge storyline with Captain America was interesting. I vaguely remember the Hulk being trapped under a mountain and being really pissed off in an Avengers comic. I was a big X-Men and Hulk fan, however, the tv show and not comic made me a Hulk fan. I stopped reading comics in the early 90s, which should explain these old storylines.

Tough one....3 way tie for me.

Batman - The Long Halloween, Death of the family and (probably a controversial one, since most people don't like it) No Man's Land.

One is more of a detective story vibe to it, one shows his un-stable and insane relationship with Joker and another is a mega crossover featuring all the bat-family and a destroyed Gotham abandoned by the US government after a huge earthquake.

I know it's a predictable response, but that's only because it's objectively true: The best thing Wolverine's ever been involved with is still the Claremont/Miller mini-series.

The Weapon X and Kitty Pryde stories are pretty great too though.

Too many to just name one:

Batman: The Black Mirror
Batman: Endgame
Batman: The Killing Joke
Batman: The Man Who Laughs
Batman: Hush
Batman: Arkham Asylum- A Serious House On Serious Earth

Daredevil: The Man Without Fear
Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Guardian Devil
Daredevil: Shadowland (one of the few who liked it)

There is a Superman story I really, really love and think it's really underrated.

It's called Secret Identitiy. It's about Superboy prime...kind of, non canonically. It came out before Infinite Crisis and is the more bittersweet for it. The story is really very sweet and it becomes a bit tragic getting to know Superboy Prime in this story while knowing what happens to him and what he does in Infinite Crisis.

I also love Marvels, Kingdom Come, Red Sun, Marvel 1602, and Watchmen.

I'm not a regular comic book reader.

You want to talk live-action and animated superhero stories I can name a bunch of favorites.

Pretty sure that the Hulk under the mountain is in the original Secret Wars.

Infinity Gauntlet blew my mind when it first came out. I've always loved bad guys and when I was 12 and saw this purple guy killing all the good guys in this comic, I was in absolute awe. I didn't know what the hell I was reading at the time. I was seriously blown away and loved every second of it. I recently re-read the series and it doesn't really hold up but at the time I was just happy seeing the good guys get killed. Great memories and Thanos has been my favorite ever since.

Not really a superhero story but Thanos is my dude.

I especially love that the reason for the purple guy's murder spree is that he's trying to impress a girl... who just so happens to be a physical incarnation of, um, Death...

Even though Cap isn't my favourite superhero, I love his story arc in Winter Soldier by Brubaker (predictable, I know...). Really interesting story and I love seeing his development and desperation to not believe that Bucky is the guy they're hunting, and when he finally finds out the truth, it's just heartbreaking. Poor Cap...

I've yet to find a Black Widow story where she's in it for more than a couple of pages, other than her Marvel Now standalone series (which, to be fair, I do love). It's annoying because I know she's got this brilliant back story, I just don't know where to find it! My next read is Death of Captain America, but I'll just keep searching until I find more Natasha!
