So I spotted this and B&M today, and am torn about picking it up. Not that I think it would be insultig or anything but I have, like most people I think, bad bad meories of that day. I;ve always thought tthoguh that it would be an interesting uh, subject? for scifi to explore. As far as I know I think only Gibson, King, and JOe Hill have ever mentioned the event directly. (King seems somewhat obessed with it, but that's another topic).

So, anyone give this a go yet?

Fringe, the TV show, did make use of the fact in that the alternate universe had the twin towers still standing. I suspect that if you want to have an alternate world setting, this would be a most useful marker, rather than using the assasination of JFK as has been, pardon the pun, done to death.

R.S. Belcher's new book uses the attack as a major pillar of the plot.

I'd be willing to flip through it, by title I would guess it explores changes in the themes of bestsellers (such as the rise of low hope world's ie GRIMDARK). That's just a guess though.

Did Dan Simmons ever refer to it directly? I know it was the trigger for him going total batshit. :dunno:

IIRC he mentioned it briefly in either Ilium or Olympos. I believe he basically just listed a number of disasters and that was one he chose to include.
