Dany. Tyrion, sansa, arya, bran., jon

I go with this, esp. since GRRM stated all the Stark kids are important and 4 are POVs,Davos and Millisandre.

Non POV: LF and Lysa Arryn,or Varys for Lysa since LF was pulling her strings.

Well hmm...

Jaime Lannister for killing the Mad King and triggering at least Dany's storyline, and most of Kings Landing.

Cersei Lannister for essentially single handedly starting the War of the Five Kings.

Jon Snow for being born.

No votes for the '20 good men' on here yet?

My list would be for the people who are probably still going to be influencing the story the most going forward into s 6 and beyond, not who had done so prior and are not around anymore.

Tyrion

Dany

Jon Snow

LF

Cersei

Euron???

There are 5-6 main characters that will survive all the books. From book 1 to book 7. This is their story.
I pick - Dany. Tyrion, sansa, arya, bran., jon

Dany, Arya or Sansa will be queen, Jon snow or Tyrion will be king at the very end.

Bran = Last hero
Jon = Azor
Dany = TPTWP

These 3 will save the world with Tyrions help. Dany/ Tyrion will ride dragons as well.

So these are most important characters. Everyone else is minor/ overhyped/ disposable.

You seem sure of the ending.

You can look it at season by season of who has the most influence on the storyline. I'll go for the five I think had the biggest influence on the season overall:

1) Ned, Daenerys, Cersei, Tyrion & Catelyn

2) Tyrion, Daenerys, Theon, Stannis & Tywin

3) Robb, Daenerys, Tyrion, Tywin & Jon

4) Tyrion, Jon, Daenerys, Arya & Oberyn

5) Jon, Daenerys, Stannis, Cersei & Sansa

It depends how you look at it.

From what we see on screen, it has to be Littlefinger. He has Lysa kill Jon Arryn. It is his influence that sets off the chain of events in the first season.

Littlefinger then has Lysa write to Cat thus bringing Cat to the capital. Once there he tells Cat it was Tyrions knife thus starting the war of the five kings.

He also double-crosses Ned and kills Joffrey.

I vote for Littlefinger as most influential character in Westeros.

First on the list 100% has to be Littlefinger. ASOIAF doesn't exist without LF.

Beyond that, it gets complicated.

Daenerys has a huge impact on Essos, but barely any on Westeros (as of yet). Essos is a part of the story, yes, but not for any other character (apart from Arya).

Bran doesn't have any impact, essentially. He gets crippled then goes off to beyond the Wall. The situation of his crippling does have ripple effects, but it wasn't something Bran did - he was just the victim.

Jon's starting to be felt in the North with his actions in the last book, but before that, he didn't do much.

Arya's journey is heavily focused on her own development, almost no impact on anyone else around her.

And so...

Here's my top-five for characters that's had the most impact on Westeros/the story:

1. Littlefinger (Arranges for Jon Arryn's death, kick-starts the whole thing, betrayed Ned, got Vale and Harrenhal, etc etc etc)

2. Cersei (Arranges Robert's death, has Joffrey for a son, fucks everything up basically)

3. Tyrion (Goes from the Half-Man to the savior of Kings Landing to scapegoat to alleged murderer to actual murderer and now is over with Dany. Also, he 'toured' Westeros, saw the Wall, talked with Jon, helped Bran with the saddle, etc)

4. Jaime (Tried to kill Bran, killed the Mad King, 'escaped' via Cat, etc)

5. Melisandre (Almost said Stannis here, but realized the real reason Stannis does all the shit he did was Melisandre. She's the reason Stannis thinks he's Azor Ahai, the reason Renly's dead, etc etc - IMO Stannis and Renly might have possibly worked things out if Melisandre wasn't in the way and that would have drastically changed the story)

(Sixth on my list would be Sansa)

I agree that Littlefinger is one of the most influential characters to the story. He would probably be my #1.

Arya's arc has me intrigued... I am wondering if her training is going to take her back to Westeros to kill someone of importance

Bran (teaming up with Bloodraven beyond the wall has to count for something)

Davos... his role in Robert's Rebellion, setting Gendry free... the fact that he was at The Wall and not with Stannis leaves lots more potential

Varys's involvement has already had major implications in the story and I think that will continue

Dany: self-explanatory, I can't wait to find out what happens with the Dothraki (if a Khall who cannot ride is no Khal, what of a Khaleesi who rides a dragon?)

Tyrion: also self-explanatory, especially since the Red Priestess seemed to see something in him when he got to the Free Cities

Mel... her showing up at The Wall when she did is setting her up for something involving Jon

Theon has already made his mark and will continue to do so
