Who has the worst Governor? SPOILER IT'S NEBRASKA

Nebraska! Seriously, this guy is a huge dirtbag. His name is Pete Ricketts. He made his riches through PayPal. I knew something was off about the guy by what he focused on in his first days in office. In May of this year the legislature abolished the death penalty and ol' Petey was LIVID. He spent millions of dollars to become Governor and the legislature took away the whole point of the office! If he can't legal murder people, what's the point? So in response he spent another million dollars of his own money to repeal the law. Think about that for a second. He spent a million freakin' dollars so he could kill people. Not only that he has been busted by the DEA for trying to purchase illegal lethal injection poison on the black market. Seriously, this is what he spends his time on. He fails every time but has so much money that he can just keep going.

Today he sent a letter out saying that he won't allow refugees to be settled in Nebraska. Apparently he doesn't think the Homeland Security vetting process is strong enough. He doesn't know what the process is but he knows it isn't stringent enough. Also there have been no refugees settled in Nebraska and no indication it was going to happen BUT STILL. NOT HERE. What it really comes down to is this is his chance to make some political hay out of the tragedy in France. Never one to not be a dirtbag, he did it.

Sigh.

The Governors of Texas, Kansas and Wisconsin would like a word, Ken.

FB,

In short, it looks like he funded a referendum campaign.

I considered including FL, but that cheap copy of Lex Luther isn't as bad as Brownback.

I thought Maine's Governor was just a dumb blowhard, but otherwise harmless. Am I mistaken?

He's only "harmless" in that he's so toxic and dumb that in the state legislature Republicans have joined Democrats (who are the majority in the state house but the minority in the state senate) in overturning nearly all of his vetoes.

Even so, he still gets up to stuff like illegally threatening to cut off funding to a school that was going to offer a faculty position to a Democratic legislator.

Should I gloat because Palin is no longer governor here in the frozen north?

Our current governor, a republican turned democrat literally weeks before the election is making a serious (and painful) effort to deal with long term state budget issues.  I have been seeing snippets about this or that Conservative Governor going on about not allowing ME refugees to be settled in their state.  Walkers response (AK governor, not WI) was 'I'm too busy with more important things.'  He also managed to enrage the republican legislature by accepting a Medicare expansion - so much so, those budget hawks used public money to file a lawsuit.

Or Louisiana?  Did y'all forget that Jindal is our Governor?  The one who completely destroyed the budget ( I just left the google news page on that one) and gutted higher education for our citizens?  Also reversed his opinion on common core to the order of millions in lawsuits that the state had to pay for?

Right.  He's been so busy with his presidential campaign you FORGOT he was the Governor of a totally failed state.

But surely Louisiana is supposed to have seriously dodgy governors?

Sigh.

These threads are so arbitrary, and pointless.

I might as well go and start a thread about all the bad governors that encourage abortion and legalise drug use and try to restrict gun ownership and denounce them as the worst in the United States.

What do these threads actually achieve, other than summoning the OP's  little coterie of mutual backslappers for a quick circle jerk?

Hmmm. I always pictured us as more of a growth.

But I'm glad you already mentioned Jindal. Saved me the trouble of having bring him up.

Yeah, I came here figuring to see Louisiana mentioned and was not disappointed.  Honestly, I haven't lived here long enough to know the full extent of it, so I am glad Lily Valley elucidated it so well.

Ok, sure.  Why aren't we mentioned in the top 3?  We ARE still part of the United States...I think.

I think its because your long state nightmare is about to be over. It certainly looks like John Bel Edwards will be elected governor on Saturday, but even if David Vitter wins that would still be a massive improvement over Jindal.

Sigh.

Its not about policy positions themselves, its a combination of alleged illegal activity and/or ruining their state's economy (as measured by economic growth compared to their neighbors). There's plenty of other extremely conservative Republican governors who aren't getting mentioned here, because they haven't done anything illegal before or doing their time in office and haven't been actively trying to destroy their state.

If you think there's too much bias here, name a Democratic governor you'd label the worst in the country. I think you'd have a lot of trouble finding a convincing one using only the criteria being used here, but go for it.
