Damsel in Distress
Mell is an illusionists. She deceives using tricks, illusions, and special effects powder. She knows how to put on a good show. She's a performer. She is as good an actor as Varys. One of them is the mummer.

awearyman
Varys was a mummer, or at least traveled with a band of them when he was young.
Magnar of Skagos
You may be on to something. Some of her interpretations of the flames have missed the mark, so to say.
Federico
I'd always considered Varys the obvious Mummer, but that's why your notion of Melisandre instead interests me. I'm a bit paranoid about GRRM sleight of hand. If I had to wager, I'd still bet on Varys. But I'll keep an eye out for this possibility.

Dulcinea
Were you trying to imply that if she is the Mummer then Stannis is the Mummers Dragon of the prophecy? I could see this but at this point I really believe the Mummer's dragon is Aegon.
StarkofWinterfell
Depends on if you adhere to the possessive or the literal "mummer's dragon." Some people say that Aegon is fake because of being a "mummer" or an act. But if Varys is the mummer, then the mummer's dragon means Varys' dragon, implying Aegon is real. If Melisandre was the mummer, then her dragon is not Stannis but Jon. (If you believe r+l=j, which I don't)I can see Melisandre being mummer and Jon being her dragon if this is true

That makes sense. Not sure I can buy it though. Mels power and abilities arent fake, just her interpretations were wrong.
DigUpHerBones
i feel as though when Manderly mentions the, "mummer's farce" almost being over, that is Varys.which also tells us Wyman is much, much more connected that we think.in Dany's dreams, i feel the "mummer" is Aegon, or Rhegs...probably Rhegs. Light a wight tonight
Some people say that Aegon is fake because of being a "mummer" or an act. But if Varys is the mummer, then the mummer's dragon means Varys' dragon, implying Aegon is real. I see Varys as the mummer, but in the story we are told of a troupe of mummers who had a dragon made of cloth, implying to me that a mummer would only have a fake dragon. Beorn Snow
Aegon and Varys is a better candidate. (Especially if Aegon is fake). However Melisandre has at the very least created a fake lightbringer by giving Stannis burning swords. But she is not a liar and seems to sincerely believe what she tells others to believe
JonCon's Red Beard
Both the author and the narrative want the people and readers who are seeing visions to have it clear. If a vision shows a lion, I'm sure it's either Jaime, Cersei, Tyrion or Kevan, not the cousin's brother's aunt of some Lannister relative. While Dany might not yet know all the answers, we, as readers, know that Varys has been a mummer (according to Illyrio, at least). Some clues also hint at Varys being a mummer be in fact true. I doubt we're meant to look for more clues than what we've already been given. imaginepageant
I think the OP was referring to Melisandre's glamours (having the Lord of Bones disguised as Mance Rayder, possibly making herself look youthful and beautiful), not her misinterpretation of her visions. She uses magic to portray a certain character the same way mummers use costumes, wigs, and make-up.
BRANDON GREYSTARK
Aegon is the only one marching under the dragon banner. The mummer's dragon is the dragon that needs to be fought . BLACK OR RED A DRAGON IS A DRAGON.

StarkofWinterfell
I don't see why it has to be mutually exclusive.I do think mummer's dragon would be better fit for Melisandre and Jon than Varys and Aegon. That'd be a twist.
Damsel in Distress
Were you trying to imply that if she is the Mummer then Stannis is the Mummers Dragon of the prophecy? I could see this but at this point I really believe the Mummer's dragon is Aegon.Yes, Stannis and anyone else she may present as a dragon. Although I have to admit, she has yet to present anyone as a dragon and Stannis was never presented as a dragon. The lie may not point to dragon but to Azor Ahai instead.
