Maester Emrick of Seagard
I was rereading ASOS and suddenly stopped to breathe after Beric ressurrected. And the meme above came to my mind. For you, what action moments in ASOIAF were so unexpected you closed the book and said "whoa..."?
Jaime4Brienne
When Ladystone heart said that Brienne had to bring Jaime back to her. I also threw my book across the room. It hit the wall hard and laid there for a week or so before I picked it back up again.
Meg Mormont
When Arya went blind - I guess I didn't expect that. And then when she recovered - I kinda didn't expect it from GRRM to be so kind
Lord Lannister
The first time I read through Game of Thrones, I was fully expecting Ned to be rescued even up until the last second. I was like "Woah they killed him!!" That was the moment I bought and downloaded the rest of the books after my friend forced his copy into my hands after spending years trying to get me to read these. I was like... wait what?! How can they just do that?!
talvikorppi
The only time I've actually closed a book and flung it away was when LSH demanded Jaime's head and Brienne apparently agreed. Jeesh! I didn't pick up the book untill a couple of days later. When TWOW comes out, I'm going to throw it across the room when Brienne dies, and when Jaime dies.I hate you GRRM!!! (Well, not really.) Aedam Targaryen
I don't think I've enjoyed any part of any book more than I enjoyed Janos getting his head lopped off. I was very surprised (much like Joffery's death), because I wanted it SO bad that I assumed it'd never happen.
John Doe
It's not poor Slynt's fault that he was born into a society full off elitist pricks.
Lost Umber
When the hound's axe took Arya in the back of the head. And for sure the Red Wedding... I read that section 3x to make sure that I actually read what I thought I read and then had to sit and think about it.

John Suburbs
Renley's death, which came before we saw Mel birthing the shadow baby that killed Cortnay Penrose. Totally out of the blue and threw the entire plot into complete turmoil.

TakashiMifune
When Bran and Rickon were "murdered" by Theon I was (albeit for a short period of time) pretty shocked. I thought that it was a dark turn following the beheading of Ned. That they were still alive was one of the few moments of relief in a story where the author will probably end up killing off all of my favourite characters by the end. The bastard. Philpenn
Was 100% sure Oberyn would win. Also agree with LC Jon and Slynt. Just so satisfying.
Good Guy Garlan
The whole massacre at Craster's, with the Old Bear getting knifed and all. That's the definition of "That escalated quickly"
Celtic Cross
Other than what's already mentioned, Kevan Lannister getting assassinated was a "that escalated quickly" moment. Although I guess it could've been seen coming since things don't usually end well for Prologue/Epilogue characters in ASOIAF.
