The late arrival of certain characters. (Spoilers All)

Many people comment on the fact that a certain character was introduced late in the books and thus he can't be of paramount importance to the story and endgame. In this case, fAegon. I mostly agree with that. But he was introduced (by mentioning) since book 1.

His death was set up to be ambigious from day one in the books.

Offscreen he was being groomed to be ruler and king, basically his whole life.

Now Euron, amongst some others, is a similar case. He was mentioned before then kinda abruptly appeared late on scene. The things he did off screen we have his words only to account for (travels) and a dragonhorn to show for. The dragonhorn is the only thing that really lends some credibility towards him lasting and potentially being a 'big' player.

Now the thing I noticed is, is that Aegon as a character is easily dissmissed by lots of readers, whilst Euron has received less resistance by fans.

In my opinion the two have more or less equal weight in the overall to the story, albeit different roles. And if the argument for a character not being of vital importance is mostly 'late arrival' then shouldn't they be of equal (un)importance?

Some people say that the fact that the story needs fresh new villains gives Euron more credibillity. But isn't fAegon being set up to be an adversary (at least to someone) as well?

I know one appears a book earlier, but I'm taking the timeline into consideration. And I know one was supposed to be dead and is probably fake, but I'm also taking character setup into the equation, so it's not only about the exact time of appearance. (Tadaaa, honey I'm hoooome!) Ok, maybe that wasn't necessary. Moving on..

I'm curious to hear what you guys think of all this. What are some good arguments on either or both sides, in your opinion?

To be fair, Aegon was barely a real character before the 5th book.

I think the biggest proof (imho) of fake Aegon is his death.

Varys can surely smuggle him out, but nobody can foresee Mountain will show up and break his head so he became unrecognizable.

Suppose it is not Mountain, then there is a high possibility that people will recognize this is not the real Aegon. Since Aegon is quite important, then robert and tywin will try to find him thus disclose Varys. (And of course, ruin the surprising arrival of Aegon in the later book. )

Why would a careful Varys do this risky thing? The opportunity of a unrecognizable Aegon is very low.

unless Varys predicted that Mountain will come and crush baby aegon and make him unrecognizable. and this is impossible.

This is simply for the plot purpose.

This argument about late arrivals not being important holds no water when we consider that one character who is yet to have appeared (though has been talked about from book 1 like Aegon) is universally considered to be important.

I thought that, maybe not universally, many readers consider him not to be of main importance to the end game. But many seem to think Euron does.

My point was. Why would people consider Euron to be more important if both characters arrived late on scene, and haven't actively or even indirectly partaken jn any way in the plot beforhand.

I'm still torn on this one.

I'm not an expert on how plots work etc. I enjoy both appearances, and I think they will have considerable impact on the story, but I don't consider either characters as contenders to the main stage.

Euron was actually mentioned in Clash. He was bannished and Theon was worried he might come back, so we kinda knew he would. And he did by mid Storm. Those first three books were all published within four years of each other. So Euron was always going to be a big part of the plot.

It's maybe pointless to compare, because they are different characters with different roles to play. And banished is not as absent as dead, I admit.

Still curious to weigh in peoples interpretation of character/plot importance.

With the ambigiouty around Aegons death, many people also kinda considered that he could still be alive or more likely be 'reintroduced' into the story.

two strongest reasons for the importance of Euron,

1. he is likely the next husband of Dany based on the prophecy

2. next season of show, Victarion is deleted, there is only Euron, and he was introduced as a major figure.

He is very important for the story of Dany.

I can see him attack old town, steal a dragon, marry Dany, somehow betrayed her or hurt her, finally defeated by somebody.

IMHO is because is clear that Euron has arrived to be an ANtagonist, whereas Aegon is perceived as stealing the PROtagonism (or the Throne for that matter) of some of the readers' beloved characters.

I obviously can't speak for everybody but I don't think most people thought "hmm ya know, I just have a feeling that this dead infant they just mentioned is gonna be back" while reading aGoT. There really isn't anything suspicious about it, the mountain crushed a grown man's skull with his hands, of course if he tries to kill an infant it's gonna be unrecognizeable. Hell, if the mountain tried to give an infant his sweetest most gentle hug you would have a smattering of baby jam to clean up (no not that kind of baby jam you sick bastards)

varys and illyrio dreamt the whole thing up after they saw the corpse of the baby and had some time to formulate a plan. No more no less.

Who cares about Aegon? JonCon is the real deal of that storyline.

(seriously, mark my words: he's going to end up being more relevant).

But that's a bit of a problem, IMO, because he virtually had no build up or set up. Like, Jaime couldn't even remember his name when he's listing all the Hands to Brienne in aSoS, if I remember correctly.

Well, Jaime was still pumping blood to his dick bc of Cersei back then so I'll give his brain a pass. Also, he remembers none of the Hands, it's like he blocked the whole thing of being under Aerys' service.

Then he saw drunk Ronnet and remembered it all.

LOL! But what I meant was that GRRM could've made a better job of setting up JonCon, considering he's a POV and seems considerably important
