Benjen

I don't know if this is anywhere else, but does anyone have any ideas of where the hell Benjen is? We haven't seen him for damn near 5 bobs and 2 other Rangers that went with him came up dead. Is he dead? Hiding? Craster didn't see him when we last saw him so either he didn't go there or is somewhere in between.

I think he died.

In the original version Benjen was lord commander of watch. He was sort of playing the role of Jeol.

later GRRM obviously changed his idea (maybe because Benjen can not offer Jon a valyria steel blade?), but he already put Benjen there, so he had to let him go out and disappear.

Otherwise Benjen Stark will become the lord commander, no chance for Jon Snow.

Benjen talks to Ned about what the ranger says he saw when he comes to Winterfell. This was a ranger who had lost 3 toes a finger and both ears to frostbite, a man 40 years on the Wall.

I think Benjen went on a mission to find the truth about the Others.  He also hid the dragonglass at the Fist, hoping it would be found and its use discovered.

He may be dead, but he wasn't killed when his other 2 men were, he and at least some of his men survived.

We probably won't see him in the show, but I like him for the hooded man in Winterfell.

Good points here Brianpowers. I agree he may have gone on to learn more about the Others as he was onto them before anyone else at the wall. His storyline is one of the most appealing to me atm, I realllllly need to know whats happened to him. Also what does he know about Lyanna and or Jon ?

I hope he is alive, I liked him. However I agree with Lord Wraith either dead or Lands of always winter. What about the theory he is the HM though ??

The hooded man? Possible but unlikely right up there with Benjen is Daario. People just want him to reappear and as soon as there as a mystery character someone will think its Benjen.

Haha yeah I agree its unllikely, and your reason for why ppl rationalise he may be this person or that . Damn it I want to know where he is ! :D

I do not subscribe to Benjen is Daario ! Not quite that desperate ....lol

It's frustrating to find no clue to Benjen's whereabouts despite active looking for clues.    The only thing that gives me hope that Benjen is alive is Jon wants to know what happens to him and tends to keep his uncle in the reader's awareness.   HM? There are some compelling arguments in support of this idea.   I don't think Benjen is operating in Essos or anywhere else but the North.   His story is tied to the North and that is exactly where he will turn up, dead or alive, when he turns up.   He is after all, a sword in the darkness.

Back in AGOT Bran said that the COTF would help Benjen, to which Maester Luwin replies that the children are all dead and gone.   Obviously Maester Luwin is wrong, could Bran have been right?

Fast forward a little bit and Jon discovers the dragonglass daggers and arrowheads wrapped in a new NW cloak.  Fast forward again and Sam shows us they can kill Others, then later he discovers a record that the cotf used to gift the NW dragonglass weapons every year.

I think there is more to Benjens story but I am not exactly sure what it is.

We will certainly see Benjen again. i'm of the opinion that he'll either return in the form of a wight or he's been watching the WW, and Jon will catch up to him just as he's killed. I'm leaning towards the latter, as I'm very sure he will perish, but at least this way he can give Jon some advice to make his absence worthwhile from a story telling perspective.
