Many thanks, Geddon.

I've looked at the charity donation info on Ebay and, unless I'm reading it wrong, you have to be selling on behalf of a charity they have listed.
The one we're raising for is a small local hospice and there's no way, that I can see, to link to them through ebay.

I was taking the price fro here http://www.bearishne...post/4237.  But anything would be a step in the right direction!

Thanks again,

Steve

I just received GoT #116 from kishkeking in perfect sealed, un-opened condition. Great transaction, very nice and professional person.

To anyone looking to pick up his last copy, I would do it now beofore the HBO program begins. Once everyone else sees how great this series really is, you'll be fighting everyone on Ebay to get it.

Thanks again Jonathan.

I also bought one from Jonathan (kishkeking). I did not receive the book, nor has any communication been replied to since payment was sent.  If anyone has a direct email for him or knows him personally, I could use some help.  Thanks

Well folks, this is a first for me. I have never seen a complete set of lettered deluxe editions of A Song of Ice and Fire for sell; not even on AbeBooks. Some of you will watch this with great interest. Starting bid is roughly $10,000. Such a rare collection and with the popularity of the series waxing, I'm sure someone with wealth will bid and win. I know how much I want them; but unfortunately, these are just too much of a luxury I can't afford at this moment of my existence.

That's interesting.  I won the bid for kishkeking's last book that he had listed on ebay.  After winning the bid, I paid and everything seemed good...except I never received the book.  After a couple of communications that went unanswered I contacted ebay and filed a complaint.  Fortunately, I got my money back but it seems that Jonathan was scamming members of this board!

boiled leather, if you paid by credit card you could always contact them to start an appeals process.  They will do an investigation but they should side in your favour.  I believe PayPal also has some resolution center.  I hope you get your money back.

Two people he failed to honor auction sales to... and I happen to know, through an errant e-mail, that he has recently offered two copies to a third party. He seems dodgy, and so I have thoroughly banned him from the site. I will also be contacting the third party, to point them to this thread so that they are aware of the fact that he has twice failed to honor sale agreements.

You know, I have to say that I am very surprised that some people may have been scammed. I did receive #116 in the mail with no problems whatsoever. There has to be some disconnect somewhere. I'm not defending this seller as I really don't know him much more than others do, but even the emails sent back and forth were very honest an genuine. I'm actually in shock that this has even happened. Well, hopefully things can get resolved somehow. Good luck.

After I won the bid, I contacted kishkeking regarding shipping.  Everything was fine.  After waiting two weeks for the book I started wondering when it would arrive.  I waited a month before contacting him.  I politely asked when he shipped it as I had not received the book yet.  I got no reply.  I sent another email that went unanswered.  At this point I went to ebay's resolution center and opened a complaint.  I have no idea if ebay was able to contact kishkeking or not.  I can think of two possibilities.  Either he had shipped the book and it somehow was lost in the mail.  But, if this was the case you'd think that he would have answered my emails, telling me that he had shipped the book.  The other possibility is that he was trying to scam me.  Of course, there could be many other possible explanations but considering that two, maybe even three board members have had this happen, I'm thinking it was a scam.

The situation (for me anyways) was resolved, as I got my money back.  It's too bad, as I've been looking for a numbered copy of AGOT for awhile now.

Hopefully this situation gets resolved for boiled leather and hopefully no one else is scammed.

I asked the seller if this purchase included Rights of Refusal for future "MM" books in the set. The listing was updated to include:

I am the original owner of these books, and this auction also includes my "right" to the future "MM" volumes- I will write Sub Press and ask them to give the winner of this auction continued right of first refusal to the remaining "MM" books in the set.

Only one day and 3 hours left and no bids. I know I can't afford them. As stated before, I would be surprised if some fan or collector with the funds doesn't bite on these. A complete lettered deluxe set is the rarest of the rare for the GRRM collector. I can't be the only person drooling over this.

I'm sure that a lot of fans are drooling over this set (myself included), however, and this is a big however, I think the listing price is ridiculous.  I'm only speaking for myself but 10,000$ is nuts.  I'm not surprised that no one has bid.  If I was a Bill Gates and had this kind of money to burn, sure, but I think this is way over priced for the average fan.

My two cents.

Of course this is over-priced for the average fan. This price range is for the avid collector with money to spend. I would not expect a numbered set to go for nearly this much. The fact they are a complete lettered set is key here.

I have a modest collection of GRRM-related books/materials. I do own first editions, first impressions of all versions of the hardbacks of A Song of Ice and Fire, inscribed by GRRM. But the lettered deluxe editions are way beyond my collector status at this point. I do hope to afford a numbered set someday, although I doubt I'll find a matching set. Intact sets are just becoming too rare as time goes by. I'm sure there are folks on this forum that own complete lettered sets. Considering the popularity of the series right now (and expecting it only to grow in intensity in coming years), I bet these deluxe editions will skyrocket (along with the first editions, first impressions). Not dissimilar to what happened with Tolkien and Rowling's work around the time of the films.

Less than an hour left on the complete lettered set above.

Update: These never bid out. Maybe this person should come down in price or just hold on to them. Either way, it is nice to see a matching lettered set out there.

10k was probably overpriced, though it's difficult to judge something like this when it's so rare. The seller would probably have got some bites at around 6-7k. They've just been relisted at the same price - here

No joke on the $6K range. I probably would have been tempted at that price range (although I'm pretty sure Mr. X would talk some sense back into me before I actually dropped the cash on that set).

In all likelihood the seller wants 10k more than the books, but wants the books more than 5k. Probably just will relist to see if they sell at his asking price, and if not he keeps his set.  Actually, looks like a big seller, so might be a consignment or something.  At the very least they probably have the storefront to keep the item and not go bankrupt.  Matching sets can be a powerful thing.  I sold my Clash because I knew I would never find a matching Game, and Game wasn't worth the asking price if it didn't match, especially with the new Sub Press versions coming at some point in the future.

I changed some holdings, so here is an updated list:

AGoT #341
ACoK #173
ASoS #173
AFfC #173, AFfC "V"

I have the rights for future books with the numbers/letter: #173, #209, #263, "V"

Rugburn,

Do you still have AGoT #341?  I've got #341 of ACoK, ASoS, and AFfC + rights.  I realize you posted this a while ago, but I'm just checking. B)

Just picked up a Publisher's Copy of the Sub Press Feast.  I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but it was at a price I couldn't refuse.  I already have #75 Storm and Feast.  Maybe leave my own copy untouched and look through the PC to look at the pretty pictures.  I might gift it to one of my brothers down the line.  There was also a numbered version available (earlier today, can't be sure it is still up) for $275 from a reputable seller.  Don't know the number.  I guess PM me if you are interested and I can e-mail the info.

Also, a "reasonably" priced matching number set of Meisha Game/Clash and Sub Press Storm are up on eBay right now, for 3,400 or best offer.  No feast means you probably can't get future rights unless you find the owner of the Feast with the matching numbers.  Also comes with a Game First Edition in good condition.
Reasonable compared to the 10,000 somebody was asking for the lettered set.  Still overpaying.  Values are probably 1,000 for game and 600ish for Clash and Storm.  Maybe 100 for Game first.  There is some insane inflation going on right now, but that may or may not settle done (e.g. Storm First Editions going for 100 bucks when they went for 15-20 four months ago).

I noticed this. I agree that $3,400 is probably reasonable. If you figure numbered deluxe editions of AGoT, ACoK and ASoS generally average around $1,000 per book. Matching sets are becoming harder and harder to find. This would at least get someone three steps closer. Ironically, the mint condition hardback of AGoT with the Stephen Youll cover included in this lot is harder to find than the original AGoT first edition. That alone has collector's value and may even be worth a few hundred dollars.

I also agree that the complete set of lettered editions up on Ebay right now is much too high. But that is so rare. I spoke to a book collector that deals in rare Tolkien and other books of antiquities -- he also has a fascination with Martin. He believes this lettered set is overpriced; but he knows a few collectors who are watching that bid with interest. A complete matching lettered set with future rights is just a hard thing to come by. Though they may eventually be worth that, $5-6k seems more reasonable for now. Maybe that seller will come down.
