I don't know if anyone has mentioned him yet, but Judge Joe Dredd.

Also from comics there is both Rose "Gran'ma" Ben and Cerebus.

edit:

Also from a video game, my namesake Minsc and Boo.

Having got the obligatory Remillard reference out of my system, my vote is actually for Bannor of the Bloodguard from the Thomas Covenant series.

Seconded. I'm on 'The Power That Preserves' and before he has been badass and always a good fighter, but it is in this book when he's showing hints of emotions that I think he is truly badass. When Thomas sees the glow in his eyes when he's talking about Lord Foul, ahh, that was awesome.

I have a hard time thinking how other characters would be more badass. Bannor isn't badass because he is feared or have pondus or something. He is badass because of how icy cold he is, yet he has some very fiery emotions deep down which barely shows.

Syrio Forrel

Gordan Freeman from Half-Life. Four games, and not a single fuck is given.

Kurt from Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. Blows himself up with a nuke to destroy a whole army without a second thought.

Malcolm Reynolds. Don't really have to give a reason there. He's Malcolm Reynolds.

I'd do some better ones, but after reading the whole thread, mine were all used up!
