No, no Tairy! :P

It's pics of three ARCs (books by Naomi Novik, Jenna Rhodes, and Tanya Huff) and Ursula Le Guin's latest, which just came out in hardcover.

Hehe, nice idea :) And those are some cool books.

I have never taken photos of a book before. And I call myself a book review blog. (Well, I don't call myself one, but you get the idea.) I would take a pic of one I got today except the cover is, erm, covered, in text from the book, and it's got lots of swearing even on the cover (well 6 times) ... I try to be slightly family orientated ;)

Chris

PS: Tairy nightmares forever.

Bah, there's nothing that bad about Scott Sigler's work (is that the author? :P), right? ;) I say photograph, copy/paste, and revel in the book smut being posted

I read it last night. Le Guin has quite an interesting take on matters. It exceeded my high expectations, although I have to admit there are many who would be less than enthralled by the subject matter (Lavinia rather than Aeneas or the Trojan landing). But she took an interesting angle on Vergil's poem, viewing it as a tragedy rather than as a heroic celebration. In that light, what happens between Aeneas and Turnus takes on a whole new meaning.

Let me know what you thought of it. I might have time to write the review this weekend if I'm lucky. I have Winterson and Abercrombie reviews to write first, then it'll be Le Guin and Susan Palwick.

Lavinia won't be out for us regular folks until April 21. But when I do get it and read it, I will let you know how I felt about it. :) And I thought there were some tragic moments in The Aeneid as it is. I certainly felt sorry for Dido...

It's out now, at least from Amazon. I didn't get a review copy of it (I have no contacts with Harcourt), so if you want it ASAP, I'd order it from Amazon :D And as for Dido, yes, one is meant to feel for her. My Latin professor made sure of that when I took a class on the poem back in Spring 1994 :P

I completely missed the latest LeGuin book. And it does sound like an interesting, new standpoint on the Trojan war. That said, I haven't read The Aeneid -- been meaning to for a while. And yeah, you were right about the book! ;) I can do some book smuts next week, maybe!

Actually, I have had it on pre-order from Amazon for awhile now. Hopefully I will get it soon, then, too! :)

I guess it's time to check then, right? :P I have Amazon Prime, so with the two-day shipping, it arrived Friday afternoon after shipping late Wednesday.

Just checked, and they have shipped it out. It is sitting at a post office about thirty miles from my house, awaiting delivery to my post office, so it can then be delivered to my mailbox. I would guess it will be here on Tuesday or thereabouts. :)

Good to hear - I'm still awaiting arrival of a package that was shipped about a week ago from FL. Bought five interesting books (Dreamsongs II, The Shadow Year, Bone Song. Wastelands, and Screaming in Code) for $37.50 (counting shipping) from an author offering books for sale. Needless to say, the choices available were quite eclectic, to say the least. But who knows how long it'll take to arrive? I always prefer Amazon for the quickest delivery times - as I've had some "two-day" shipments arrive the afternoon after I placed the order! I guess it helps that I live only 150-200 miles from a major depot of theirs.

Here is some more book porn for people to contemplate. One of the books ought to be easily recognizable (if not read) by quite a few here ;)

No pictures, but I just received The Last Dragon today, on recommendation of the board!

The Amazon order was bundled with Vandermeer's Veniss Underground and Wolfe's Fifth Head of Cerberus, both of which I'd previously read and were on my "to collect" list. The McDermott has some heavy company to live up to!!

I want Lavinia now.

Excellent books, there! :D And Lavinia is well worth it. I hope to have a review of it written before the end of the month. Also, that book I centered in the photo, Nisi Shawl's Filter House, might be one of the better short story collections coming out this year (August release), if the two of hers that I've read elsewhere are representative of the entire collection.

I live in a western suburb of Nashville, TN, and since most publishers are from NYC, I guess that might explain it. But then again, I just received one from Wizards of the Coast today and that was mailed from Renton, WA. Not for sure what to do with this new Margaret Weis book. Might have a giveaway in a month or two, when I will have the spare money for shipping, if a certain friend doesn't want it. But my first preference is for it to be read/reviewed by someone if I can't/won't do it.
