I always pictured William Morgan Sheppard as Maester Aemon. He can do "cranky-old-but-you-can't-help-but-feel-warmly-towards" like nobody else.

That's funny, that's exactly the guy I imagined playing Craster. I just didn't know his name...

I first thought that Jason Carter (Marcus from Babylon 5) would make a great Benjen Stark, but now I think that he would also make a great Mance Rayder. He can sing as well, at least after a fashion :P

D`accord .... I support Jason Carter as Mance Rayder

For Roose Bolton or Jeor Mormont many, many great actors are named here already .... don´t want to recapitulate them all

So, here are some new suggestions for the part of Walder "the late Lord Frey"

Paul Hogan http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001357/ or Christopher Lloyd http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000502/ both of them have to be made a little bit older .......... but hey, it´s HBO :P

Not possible now, obviously, but I always imagined Craster played by David Carradine.

Hate to tell you this, but David Carradine passed away about 2 months ago.

:stunned:

I think that's why he referenced "not possible now, obviously..."

I'm just about to watch "Red Riding" (after LOTR) on Channel 4. The show stars Sean Bean and Mark Addy and it's set in the North during the yorkshire ripper. It's supposed to be an excellent drama with great acting all around, so I'm hoping to play "who could they be in AGOT". Seeming though Sean Bean is setting the tone for northerners it seems likely the rest will possibly have real northern accents. I think it's a safe bet that some of the actors will turn up in AGOT.

I think Brian Cox would make an excellent Jeor Mormont, the Commander of the Watch. Then again he'd also make an excellent Craster or a number of other roles.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0389581/ Michael Hogan (Tigh from BSG) would be the perfect Yoren. He has the grumpy old craggy angry, but for some resion you still care about him bit down. Also I can just hear him growling "Boy!" at Arya.

David Schofield would be wonderful as Yoren. He was perfect as Gaffer Hexam in BBC's "Our Mutual Friend", so I'm certain he can pull off Yoren's craggy old 'charm'. His IMDb.

Robbie Coltrane would be a fitting Lord Manderly, IMO, and his two sons, Wylis and Wendel could be played by Jeremy Ratchford and Kevin James respectively.

As for Fat Walda, Kelly Osbourne, perhaps?

There is not a whole lot of "chubby" actors available to play the roles of the fat people in these books but enough to make do, I guess.

Mance Rayder - Cary Elwes

Balon Greyjoy - John Noble or Bernard Hill

Don't know if anyone's suggested it yet, but I see Brian Blessed as Greatjon Umber. He might be too old for the part, though.

Tyler Mane as Greatjon Umber. This picture http://www.itusozluk...yler+mane/96392 is all Greatjon to me, except for the setting in the background and maybe weapons and armor. But his look and expression is how I picture the Greatjon in battle.

Random though for Aemon... Robert "Jesus of Nazarath" Powell... darnit that won't work, he's in his mid-sixties. Man he must have been young when that miniseries came out.

I think that Richard Grant would be great as Roose Bolton.

He looks just like I picture Roose, and I think he could pull off his slightly creepy vibe really well.
