Nice list, Stego! I've read everything but the Delany (I know, I know!), DeCamp and Varley. Looks like I know what I'm doing after I finish Eifelheim.

I also agree with Stego in that many libraries' collections are woefully inadequate when it comes to good genre fiction. Only in larger cities (with a significant number of branches) are you going to get collections that go beyond the bog-standard and the shit.

Sorry for being negative, Charlie :P

I just stole a quick flick through the Lovecraft. I cannot read from the screen! I just skim. But it caught my eye that the cat was called 'nigger-man'. That just...made me laugh after the last few days ultra PCness round here.

I use to have a problem with it, but I think years of EJ has trained me to be able to read detail points on the screen. :P

Can't imagine paying for a Kindle though.

Thanks, Stego. I have a hard time reading off the screen too but my local library has almost none of the books I want to read, so I'll take whatever I'm offered.

I'll definitely read these stories. I think I've read the Lovecraft one but I'm not even sure about that.

Elitist Jerks is the uber nerd forum for people who like to play WoW but need more math in their lives. Fascinating place, draconian moderation policies, and mad attention to minutia.

A Gun For Dinosaur is one of my favorite stories, as is The Nine Billion Names of God.

Evenn if these folks don't want more I sure as hell do:).
