All I have from this week's episode is a question.  One tube of toothpaste left, the food situation is always a problem.  Where the hell is the fleet getting cigarettes and booze?

I think they are both smoking and fermenting algae.

Interview with the actor playing Doc Cottle.

He comes across pretty much as you'd imagine.

I had never noticed that Doc Cottle is "Dutch" from Soap.

Doc Cottle lives.

It's gonna be a happy ending then.

Yeah. Wert, where were the spoiler tags on that interview? Now we know that "total apocalypse" is not an ending option, it's removed all the tension... :P

Just messing around. Actually that was an enjoyable interview. It's funny to see how Cottle was originally just meant for one episode and now who can imagine the show without his chain-smoking crustiness toiling away in the medical bay?

We haven't yet ruled out "The mighty wrath of Doc Cottle brings forth total apocalypse".

One last tube of official tauren toothpaste. So, basically, it's the last piece of toothpaste left from the colonies. I'm sure they are producing tons of their own, nasty, algae based toothpaste, booze and cigarettes.

Sodium alginate is a binder used in some toothpastes and comes from algae.  It used to be the most common one when I was a kid.

You could probably make a passable toothpaste from sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), glycerin and some other vegetable oil as a foaming agent.

Algae + Blinking Tech Box => Toothpaste

And that's all you need to know.

she did have a legitmate grudge against Athena, and fucking Helo obviously wasn't Plan A for her.

Okay, I'm usually just a reader of these threads for the most part, but I got the impression that Boomer was manuvering Helo into a spot where she knew Athena would get an eyeful...that it was part of her revenge.  Maybe not "plan A", but absolutley something she wanted to get done before leaving...

Aye. The important thing to realise is that Athena is basicalyl living Boomer's life. She got everything Boomer wanted. She's openly a Cylon, she's accepted, she's married, she's got a kid, she's got friends, everything.

And so Boomer comes along, beats up boomer, fucks/fraks her husband in front of her and then steals her kid.

She destroyed the perfect life she had always wanted to live. All in order to keep Athena from living it in her place. Or maybe just cause she hates it now, because she can't have it.

What you missed is: no Agathon has been killed at all.

What tickled me about this episode: apparently Helo can only tell his wife apart from other Number Eights by her clothes. ;)

Hal Duncan goes on (and on and on) about BSG's thematic problems here. Some nice points, but Jesus Christ he needs an editor.

What's worse is that they apparently forgot that the fact that Hera can distinguish between her mother and other Eights, and had a particularly bad reaction to Boomer, was a key plot point of the episodes Eye of Jupiter and Rapture

Or Hera being uber special or something wants to go this way.  (Doubt this)

I could also say that at younger ages we are more intune to our subconcious and impulses, Hera is at an age where rationality is setting in, where as a baby she would not have to war against the rationality of it.  (I also doubt the writer's thought of this as well.)

I totally forgot about that actually.

Did they mention before that the flight pods could retract?  Because I certainly don't remember that and I was surprised when it happened.

To be fair, Boomer kinda swooped in, grabbed her up and was off again before Hera could react well enough for anyone to notice...

We've seen them retract before, I'm pretty sure.

And I assumed the reason Boomer shoved that bottle into Hera's mouth was to distract the girl from thinking too much or saying anything.

Did we see Hera after that?  Was the bottle drugged?

My take was that she was trying to avoid getting too close to Helo, out of fear of being discovered.

I'm pretty sure retracting the flight pods is part of the pre-jump prep.  I seem to remember Starbuck and Apollo crashing onto the flight deck as the pods were getting pulled in at the end of the final battle in the miniseries.  It just hasn't been a plot point since then, except for maybe the escape from New Caprica. I think when they jumped into the atmosphere, the flight pods were retracted, but apparently the vipers can still launch in that configuration.
