A couple themes are still being introduced or reinforced, which can be a little obvious.
Unfortunately the entire premise is forced in execution, and the well-crafted family unit of Castle and daughter is wasted on a show that is likely to be cancelled. The cop lead is a good character as well ... isn't afraid of being an actual woman.
I tend to assume someone decided to go hard after the lead-in audience of Dancing with the Stars and that affected some of the more random aspects of the cast and themes. Who knows, maybe demographics will keep it alive long enough to find more solid footing?

I hope for more, but as a friend of mine predicted: Nathan Fillion's involvment means this is doomed to be cancelled.
Guy just has no luck.

Actually i think this is the kind of show that lasts - the storytelling, acting and chemistry are all top notch for a cop show and cop shows are pretty popular. I think it has a few more seasons yet.

I don't know why they forced every aspect of the show into the first episode; a little taste would have been plenty to garner interest.

The show is artificial. You don't really get the feeling that any of these people are acting naturally. I don't know how much of that's the acting, how much the writing, or whether that may change if the show can eventually find its stride, but it's a problem now. Or maybe it's intentional, and they're playing up the over-the-top aspects of the already over-the-top characters, but in that case, it's not working.
That said, Castle doesn't take itself too seriously, which means I can't judge it too harshly. I don't really watch other police procedurals, so anything that might seem trite or cliché to fans of the genre passes by me unnoticed. Overall, if I'm bored and watching TV at 10 on Monday nights, I may tune in, but it didn't really leave much of an impression. It's not bad, it's just bland.

It looks like it's going to get renewed which is a good thing. While I'm not a huge fan of procedurals, I do enjoy this show.

Unfortunately I agree on every point.
And yeah, I never would have even given this a second thought I'd not for Fillion.
