The stuff that happens in both other series isn't any less depressing when you think about it, but First Law is funnier and Land Fit for Heroes goes more for action-film swagger, whereas Bakker positively revels in rubbing the horror into your every pore.Likewise Prince of Thorns, in which Gregor Clegane would probably be considered a model of restraint, but which is narrated with a great big smirk so it doesn't jump out as much.
