The template uses an elegant shield and a rather simple charge. I don't think mixing those is a good idea. Then it does not have the beauty of a coat of arms that completely consist of elegant element but it is still less clear then a good of arms that only has simple elements.
Wikipedia uses the simple elements as well. Besides clarity the coa can also be changed more easily. I like that approach especially for the main coa. Maybe we could decide to show a second coa on the pages which has a different style.
For the shield at reddit; you mean to use them for the mini-shields that we show on booth sides of the character names? The shield that have a motto certainly can be replaced. But for the others I think a downscaled version works usually pretty good. For instance the
Bolton coa is still very well visible when downscaled.
