I want to start a BWB Toronto chapter that actually meets regularly, like 1 - 2x per month.  Anyone interested?  Maybe it could even start off as a book club type thing, but we would go out an socialize at a pub too.  Who's in?!

Not a bad idea :)  Not sure how many still pay all that much attention on this part of the board now though.  Would probably have to pm the ones that say they're in the area.

We've only really gotten together in a 'group' twice that I know of in the past...7ish years.  Worldcon and when GRRM was signing Feast for Crows I think it was.

Yeah, we're not exactly a hotbed of BwB activity ... but ... I'm here (actually out of the city temporarily)!

How bout we aim to meet at the Crown & Dragon Pub (Bloor/Yonge) on Thurs October 28, 8pm?

I don't really know how to use all the tricks on this site.  Can you guys please get the word out? (and maybe let me know how it goes)

We'll make the first book easy... A Game of Thrones!

Hey, seems I'm a little late to the party, but I'm interested if this gets off the ground. :)

Its funny that you posted this i was just wondering what the Canadian BwB scene was like, Im a fellow Torontarian. The next month or so im pretty locked up schedule wise, but i think itd be cool do something like this. Starting up an official T.O chapter would cool.

Anyone know the Next time GRRM might make a T.O appearance i would love to get all my books signed but especially my ADWD cus its the only hard cover of the series i own.

Many opportunities for local BWBers to meet up at conventions throughout the year, but also at fan-run pub nights called First Thursdays and Third Mondays.

For the pub nights check out the google calender here:  https://www.google.c...ndar.google.com

For conventions, Ad Astra, Polaris, Fan Expo Canada, and SFContario are all great opportunities to organize a BWB gathering.

SFContario is November 18 - 22 this year, with John Scalzi as guest of honour.  http://2011.sfcontario.ca/site/
Anybody planning on attending?

One day!

If someone wants to take the initiative and start planning, I would likely make it out.

It's a busy quarter for me, and Q1 / Q2 are looking just as full, so I don't really have time to plan an event myself.

Depending on the weekend, I might even be in town and can show up.

One of these days we'll get out again ;) I'm not huge in the organizing department either mind you unless its another GRRM reading//signing.  Usually pretty busy schedule-wise.  But if anyone does think of something (or even pick a date) shoot me a pm.  I'm game :)

I don't know if this is still run by an official group or not, but I believe it used to be run by Toronto Hydra, which is/was a social club for local SF writers & fans active in the local SF events.

By the way, anyone here take part in the Toronto Zombie Walk that is held in October I think every year?  It would be funny to get a bunch of ASOIAF fans dressed as Wights, perhaps as Wildlings and Night Watch brothers reanimated corpses.

GRRM coming to Toronto on Monday, March 12th to talk at TIFF about GOT, ASOIAF and more.  ($12)
http://t.co/jBc3wClA

This would be a good thing to build a BWB Toronto event around.  Now if I can only get a ticket...

I have no idea, just saw the tweet by WICnet.  I presume IF he's not signing there and then, he'll probably organize something at a bookstore and sign there.  I know of no Toronto SF conventions happening that weekend, so he's not coinciding his trip with a convention (where it would be awesome to hear him do a reading of TWOW).

Personally i am not a signature hound.  Hearing him speak on ASOIAF and GOT would be interesting though.

As far as I can tell HBO Canada is involved with this TIFF event -- might we hope for a sneak preview clip from Season 2 of GOT?

Ok, i sent GRRM an email fishing for information...

Sounds great. Putting it on my calendar now. And it's at the Lightbox? Beautiful.

Let us know if you hear anything back, SC.
