For the Red Viper, its gonna have to be 1 hard looking mo fo, who has a sneaky look to him too. Slender, agile, quick and strong, as he does have to fight the big guy.
Off the top of my head I cant think who it should be. Sorry

I like and approve this suggestion
I've often favoured Purefoy for the Red Viper, but I agree it could be a missed opportunity to cast a non-white actor in a key, charismatic role if they did that. The issue is that Purefoy is a big name who's carried movies (if not huge ones) and so comes with a price tag attached. He's more expensive now than during Rome, that's for sure. So do you give him a big role worthy of his pay packet and profile, or have him as a special guest star who'll appear for 3 episodes and then depart (if extremely memorably)? The former is more cost-effective than the latter, but the latter is overall less money. But then do you risk losing out on another big actor for a larger role because so much money has been spent on the guest cast?
It's a juggling act. They might be helped that by Season 4 (assuming ASoS goes two seasons) I don't recall many more large, recurring actors introduced (the Tyrells come in during Season 3/ASoS Pt 1, and we lose a significant chunk of the recurring cast at the end of Season 3 which frees up space for more roles in the series), so they may have the time and money to spend on a relatively big-name actor for Oberyn.

I'd love to see Purefoy in the show though. I think hed'd be great as Mance Rayder or Crow's Eye. I'd even think he'd make a great Davos. I'd like to see him do something other than the cocky charming warrior type.

They are darker in colour at least. Here's what the the woiaf has to say:
"According to Daeron I, who recorded his wars in Dorne, there were three sorts of Dornishmen. There were the 'salty' Dornishmen who lived along the coastlines, which were generally thin and dark, with olive skin and black hair. The 'sandy' Dornishmen lived in the deserts and river valleys, with dark brown skin and tended to wear long, bright scarfs around their helms to keep the sun off. The 'stony' Dornishmen lived in the Red Mountains, large and fair, they still contained the blood of the Andals and the First Men, usually with blond or brown hair and freckles. The salty Dornishmen have the most Rhoynish blood, the stony Dornishmen the least.[2] Dornishmen have a reputation for hot-bloodedness as well. Bastards born in Dorne are given the surname Sand. "
I believe, though please correct me if I'm wrong, that the Green orphans are an example of the salty, the Daynes of the stony and the Martells the sandy (Arianne is decribed as having
Naveen Andrews springs to mind for Oberyn, if he would do it. I still say the Halfhand for Purefoy, unless he's too young.

I was about to say, Naveen Andrews seems much more perfect than Purefoy for the Red Viper. It would also bring over all the Lost viewers that have yet to discover GoT, so I'll have to second this suggestion. As for Purefoy, the best suggestion so far is Mance Rayder, as long as he can sing of course.

I think James Purefoy is much too....Hmmmm...How can I explain this....? He is too happy and witty to be Davos. Just like you said: Cocky, charming warrior type. Davos needs to be someone more brooding, I think. As Mance though, I agree that he'd be great.

Come on people, how many other short, swarthy Spaniards are there? He's the only choice. Javier Bardem is just too tall.
