There was definitely some good spectacle there, but I just couldn't get over how this movie saw the death of the Picard that I loved, the thoughtful man of words, the accomplished litigator, the guy who loved sonnets and archaeology, and replaced him with Captain Kirk.  We already have one, thanks.

You'll either love this or hate this.

That's hilarious! But if you tried really hard I think you could pick apart any film like that. I look at it this way, it was fun, they weren't going for Citizen Kane, they wanted to sell tickets. :)

[/i]The coin flip scene in No Country for Old Men.
Brilliantly written, gives me chills every time.

:agree:

To add a few:
From Once Upon a Time in the West
Harmonica: And Frank?
Snaky: Frank sent us.
Harmonica: Did you bring a horse for me?
Snaky: Well... looks like we're...
[snickers]
Snaky: ...looks like we're shy one horse.
Harmonica: You brought two too many.

The entire final stand off between Harmonica and Frank

From my teenage days:
Invasion USA
Chuck Norris creeping up on the bad guy saying: Its time.....(to die)
And why not. We're talking Chuck Norris here.

Chingachgook taking on Magua in Last of the Mohicans. In fact that whole scene climbing the cliffs.

The last shoot out in For A Few Dollars More. The way the locket's tune winds down and almost stops before you hear the stronger tones of the duplicate locket held by Clint, who comes and gives Mortimer his gun.

A lot of great mentions already. A couple of personal favorites:

Hans Landa's first scene in Inglorious Basterds. The milk talk, the tension. Amazing.

When Bruce Willis's character in Unbreakable is standing in the train station and reaches out his arms, and later when he is in the invader's house. I saw this in the theater and I almost jumped outta my seat, I was so pumped and excited.

I'm such a sucker for the singing in the restaurant scene in My Best Friend's Wedding. I'll watch the whole damn movie just for that (and cause you can hear them announce Ozzie Guillen at the Sox game).

The final "space" scene in The Fountain. Beautiful imagery, great acting, and phenomenal music. Love the amazing effects and how they were achieved.

The montage of Ben's time with Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate, culminating in him on top of her. Really the whole movie, but that's the first one I thought of :P

The Roxanne music bit in Moulin Rouge.

I had forgotten this.  Although most would consider them pathetic, my 3 favorite speeches are the presidents speech from Independence Day, the presidents speech from Armageddon, and Drogo's speech from Ep 7 of GoT.

Once Upon a Time in the West is one of my favorit movies. The final fight is a classic, and who thought Henry Fonda one of the nicest guys in silver age Hollywood could play a scary mother fucking bad guy? Awesome movie, thanks for bringing this one up.

I have one more, the bar fight scene in Unforgiven. Link

Hum just thought of another one. At the end of Zulu when Michael Cane looks over to the Stanley Baker and asks if he was ashamed too after his first battle, to which Baker replies, do you think I could stand this butchers yard more than once. A very humanizing and poetic moment when two soldiers who have been through hell together face teh reality of the horror of war.

I thought the compelling scene in that one was either "Diamants" or "Elephant Love Medley".

The wide shot towards the end of the plunge of the Balrog and Gandalf at the start of the Two Towers.

Balrog first appearance on the Bridge of Khazad-dum, where he flexes and all the flame bursts forth.

The pan out in FotR where we see the nearly-completed Black Tower.

The shots at the start of FotR of the Last Alliance, especially where you have the swords of the front rank of the Elves start swishing in a deadly line.

There are probably many more from the three LotR films I have forgotten.

"Mawwiage"

"As you wish" at the end of the Princess Bride.  Still brings tears to my eyes.

You guys have already mentioned quite a few of the ones I was going to post. The "Maybe God is trying to tell you something" scene from The Color Purple. Magua's ass whipping at the end of Last of the Mohicans. The diner scene from Pulp Fiction. Gandalf vs the Balrog and Theoden's speech on the Pellenor Field.

-Bill's Superman speech from Kill Bill. Also his brother Bud's "That woman deserves her revenge and we deserve to die" monologue.

- Vader's redemption in Return of the Jedi as he hurls Palpatine off the platform while the Jedi theme plays.

-Michael Corleone gives Fredo the "kiss of death" in The Godfather part 2. "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You BROKE MY HEART"

-Ulrich of Craggenmoor vs. Vermithrax Pejorative at the end of Dragonslayer

-The chase scene in Raising Arizona. "Son, you got a panty on your head."

"No. No I'm not."

When one of the crime bosses tells The Joker he's crazy. Ledger delivers that line superbly, just fantastic. You see the psychopath knowing full well he's got not an ounce of insanity in him. Just brilliant.

The death of Maximus.

The sweeping fields of his home, his figure approaching his som and wife. His broken body laying on the coliseum floor. So sad, peaceful, and hopeful all at once.

Neo realizing he doesn't need to dodge bullets.

Anderson just plugs every bullet he has at him, and he just holds up his hand and they all stop in front of him so simply, and they just collapes on the floor. Neo gets that look of childlike wonder, like when your kid when he does something new for the first time.

"I find you're lack of faith is disturbing"

One of the Imperial Admirals scoffs at The Force and the Dark Side so Darth with little effort begins choking the life out of him using The Force.

These are just a few off the top of my head.
