So I've now seen the final episode twice, and didn't see anyone that died earlier than they did in the series. Did I miss something, or will it be something that occurs in season 2 (since GRRM has said they have been writing scripts for those season 2 already)?

It was apparently Marillion's maiming that was meant, not a death in the show. His character was combined with the singer who got to choose between his tongue and his hands, which may (probably will?) have an impact on his role in book 3. Either it'll be altered slightly, or LF'll just use another scapegoat when it comes to it.

Yeah but if it's Tywin Lannister's son and the person you're ransoming to is Tywin Lannister, you better expect your return hostage to be missing body parts too. And you wouldnt be able to say it wasn't fair either.
The situation that had been suggested and thankfully proven wrong would have involved out of character actions from Jaime, Robb and Cat, affected or cut multiple story arcs (and cutting story arc time is not necessarily a good thing- you have no idea where characters are headed, and thus what details of their arc are important and how exactly they have to develop as characters) and character development arcs, involve some really stupid decisions by some apparently clever characters, logically force other characters to react in a way that would drastically alter the course of the story, make the villains more sympathetic and the "heroes" every tiny bit as bad as them way too early and basically serve no purpose. Thank f*** they didn't go down that route
