Margaery is never called "hot". These are the same people who appear to think Catelyn is described as a beauty, I suppose, even though she never is. What Margaery is specifically called is "pretty". Which to me means she's ... well, pretty and cute, but not a stunner. Loras is the beautiful one.

agreed, not hot at all, looks like the sort of person that used to get bullied at school, not one of the finest and most attractive knights in the kingdom.

Age isn't ultimately a huge deal to me, but the issue I have with Dormer is that she's always looked older than she really is for me. She's got this scrunched up pig kind of look (not saying she's not attractive in a haughty sort of way) that has always made me peg her at 30. She has very tight skin that defines all of the lines of her face very well, which makes her quite striking, but also makes her look older.  I find it much easier to buy the rest of the case being younger/older than they are than I expect I'll find it to be the case with Natalie. But her age is one of the less important things in the series.

Well I think he's meant to be Disney Prince Charming-type handsome in a younger sense, not necessarily the older rugged-man type of handsome. Ser Loras appeals as the dream knight of the young girls in the kingdom. He's the Justin Beiber of Westeros. Wow, I just said that. Now I want to punch him in the face worse than Joffrey.

The books always left me with the impression that the Tyrells were the best looking family in the kingdom that they just were the winners of the gene pool lottery, the casting on the show just does not that give me that impression. Guess I'm a bit more sensitive to the issue cuz I'm a bigger fan of the Tyrells and the Martells than the Lannisters or Starks.  Plus of course I can not know for sure but this smells more like we need an actress with name recognition, than oh she just brings Margaery for the books to life.  Maybe she is a good actress who can play a different Margaery very well and be loved by non readers but the casting just seems to indicate they are not even gonna try to stay faithful to the books with the Margaery character.

As I recall Margery is not a pawn - she understands the game the QoT is playing.

Yes, she is not naive as Sansa (or Ned). She understands the game and play her part smartly. Still, she is not the mind behind Tyrell's plans.

On another note, that means Emmy Rossum won't have a role in this series. A pity. She was Margery in my mind.

I still don't see how an older Margarey changes the plot much.  She was a very astute 16 year old in the books. She can certainly still be an astute 23 (for example) year old instead without changing anything.  Maybe she should have married already but not everyone marries before hitting 18.

Criticising an actor been selected for a role because they are not good looking enough is silly because of how opinion depends on the beholder.  It is fair enough to say you don't find a character attractive though but that has nothing to do with casting.

If they wanted to cast her for her name, they could have picked a different role.  No, I think D&D have something planned for Margarey and the Tyrells.  And to be honest, she isn't that big a name.

Never seen the Tudors so I have no idea how her acting ability is. As long as she can show the appropriate aversion to pies she needs, I'll be happy.

Alright...I think that's a fair (yet unwelcome) connection you make.

I felt like he had a more universal appeal than coverboy of KL Tiger-Beat (Dragon-Beat?). Weren't there others besides Jeyne and Sansa who were murmuring his name?

All told, it really doesn't matter, Finn is Loras and doing well, and Natalie should be a fine Margaery. Truth be told, Olenna Redwyne is the Tyrell casting decision I care about most, as she is such a great character...

I don't find it hard to believe that the Tyrells would put off arranging a marriage for their 20-something year old daughter. We know they're a very cunning and ambitious family, so undoubtedly they were biding their time and hatching some schemes much like Doran Martell did with Arianne. The Tyrells are the second most wealthy and one of the most powerful families in the realm. If anyone can afford to bide their time and wait a bit for what they'd consider to be a more suitable match for their children, it would be them.

One of the most exciting things about casting news is the inevitable obtuse complaints that arise. They are all so wonderfully comical.

You guys do realize that if in your mind every female portrayed is supposed to be the most gorgeous woman ever to grace existence, reality will disappoint you, because there can be only one. I almost wish the show would blow its entire budget to hire Natalie Portman, Scarlet Johanssen or Selma Hayak just so I could laugh at the invariable comments of "too old" and "not hot enough!" I'm surprised people didn't complain about the lady cast as Old Nan not fitting the bill, because in the book you got the impression that she was supposed to be a total babe.

Don't let me stop you though. Dance, monkeys, dance! Amuse us some more with your complaints.

I wonder if they are planning on collapsing some of the Tyrell's into Margeary? Maybe pair it down to Margeary, Loras and Lord Tyrell. Eliminate the rest of the family, including Queen of Thorns, and make Margeary more of a player? Makes sense considering the size of the cast, already huge, could get unwieldy at that point. It's fine with me as long as the actress is good (which from her work on The Tudors seems more than likely) and the story is well written. The show has been pretty close to the books but it just can't be 100% faithful all the time.

I'm with you on this one. As Im sneaking up on forty,overweight,ginger and a borderline alchoholic I feel sure I could do better than the likes of Dormer.
